Jaya Bachchan Fought With Rajesh Khanna After He Insulted Her Husband, Amitabh, Says Master Raju

Rajesh Khanna was a legendary actor of Indian cinema. He was considered a successful actor who once ruled the Hindi film industry. In a recent conversation, Master Raju shared a BTS moment from the sets of his film, Bawarchi. In the 1972 film, Master Raju a.k.a Raju Shrestha, worked as a child artist, while Jaya Bachchan and Rajesh Khanna appeared as lead actors. Master Raju recalled the fight between Jaya and Rajesh Khanna on the sets of Bawarchi over Amitabh Bachchan.

In a recent conversation with Siddharth Kannan, Master Raju recalled a BTS moment from the sets of his film, Bawarchi. He shared that Jaya Bachchan, who was Jaya Bhaduri back then, had a clash with Rajesh Khanna. They were at loggerheads due to Amitabh Bachchan. Master Raju highlighted that Rajesh Khanna didn’t like the fact that Big B was gaining popularity and constantly challenged his ‘first superstar’ status. He was quoted as saying:

“There was an argument, and the shooting had also stopped. I only remember something like this because Bawarchi is a very old film. That fight was regarding Amitabh Bachchan. Jayaji was friendly with Amit Ji and Amitabh was also close to Rishi Kapoor and he was doing a film with him. Rajesh Khanna had his own problem. He didn’t want anyone to replace him, and Amitabh Bachchan was coming up with a lot of force. Rajesh Khanna said something against Amitabh Bachchan to Jaya ji and that’s when they fought and the shooting was halted.”

Master Raju opens up about Rajesh Khanna’s starry tantrums

During the same conversation, Master Raju opened up about Rajesh Khanna’s starry tantrums. Sharing an instance from the shooting floor of Palkon Ki Chhaon Mein, Master Raju said that when every actor from the film, including Hema Malini, arrived in the morning, it was Rajesh Khanna who waited for the producer. He mentioned that the film’s producer used to go to the superstar’s house to fetch him. He was quoted as saying:

“During the shooting of the film, Palkon Ki Chhaon Mein at China Creek, that area at that time was outside Bombay and there was a single dirt track that went to that area. All the actors, including Hema Malini, and myself would reach in the morning. Rajesh Khanna was the lead actor of the film, so producer used to go to his house to fetch him up. We used to keep sitting and waiting for him. Also, we got to know whether Rajesh Khanna is coming to the set by the speed of the car.”

Further in the conversation, Master Raju revealed that once Rajesh Khanna refused to come downstairs to meet his son-in-law, Akshay Kumar. For the unversed, Akshay Kumar tied the knot with Rajesh Khanna and Dimple Kapadia’s daughter, Twinkle Khanna, on January 17, 2001. Recently, they celebrated their 25th wedding anniversary. The couple shares two children, Aarav Kumar and Nitara Kumar. Master Raju shared that once Akshay Kumar went to meet his father-in-law at his home. When the superstar was informed about Akshay’s arrival, he reacted angrily. Master Raju was quoted as saying:

“I have heard another instance about him when Akshay Kumar went to his home to meet him, and Rajesh Khanna was sitting upstairs in some room, and somebody informed him that Akshay Kumar had come to meet him. His reaction was, ‘Main uska sasur hoon, woh aayega mere paas, main kyun jaoon.'”
