Jedward competed on ITV’s singing competition X Factor in 2008, and have gone on to perform on Eurovision – ahead of Halloween, they reveal what the scariest thing they’ve done is and which one of them can see ghosts

For most people, auditioning for a televised singing competition, like the X Factor, would be one of the scariest things they could do. But not Jedward! With Halloween just around the corner, the Irish double act shared what the scariest thing they’ve done is and which one of them can see ghosts.

When asked what the scariest thing they’ve done is, both members of Jedward – consisting of twins John and Edward Grimes – told The Mirror that it was heading to a haunted house for a Halloween movie marathon. Not because the films themselves were especially scary, but because of the paranormal activity they could feel going on there.

“I think we’re always in contact with the paranormal,” John said. Edward added: “I’ve seen ghosts since I was 12 or 13.” Still, they went to The Ancient Ram Inn, supposedly Britain’s most haunted house, for a Halloween film fest in collaboration with M&Ms. While there, they encountered what they believed to be a spirit or a witch.

“It was really scary, because they took us to the middle of nowhere,” Edward continued. “It was the most haunted documented place ever and I had a makeup brush. The brush, all of a sudden, was wet. I don’t know if a witch or a ghost was patting themselves down with the brush, but it then completely vanished.”

Edward, despite having seen ghosts since he was a teenager, felt his visions got worse after an operation he had a few years ago. “I have absorbed energies before and after I had an operation, I saw a light on the door at the end of my bed. I didn’t want to go to sleep and I was just like, ‘Whoever’s there, please leave me alone’.”

To cope, he has to imagine an “aura bubble” around him. “I had an aura bubble around me, keeping me safe and keeping me in the Jepic spirit.”

The twins first found fame as contestants on X Factor in 2008, and they reached sixth place on the show, after their enthusiastic performances and bright and bold nature became popular with audiences.

Though they have made music since, and have plans to do so again soon – John, particular wants to make a Halloween track – they have been focusing on other projects.

Jedward have had many TV shows and been on other competition shows, such as Celebrity Big Brother, where they met bestie Gemma Collins, and The Big Deal, where they were judges.

Now, they are encouraging their fans to take on the Haunted Sofa Challenge, where fans can post their reactions to spooky films online.
