The TOWIE star came under fire after she, her mother and her sister made some comments about women wearing thong bikinis but has now apologised for what she said

TOWIE star Jess Wright has apologised after making “degrading” comments about women wearing thong bikinis. The reality TV star, her mother Carol and her sister Natalya came under fire after discussing the clothing on their podcast.

During their discussion, they called thong bikinis “gross” and “unsexy”. Jess added that her husband, William-Lee Kemp, “hates” revealing bikini bottoms and told women to “put it away”.

Following the release of the podcast episode, titled ‘Should thongs be allowed at the beach?’, the comments faced mass backlash, with many saying what they said was “degrading” about women.

The trio posted an apology to their Instagram stories which read: “We’ve listened, we hear you and we want to say sorry. Our judgement was wrong and we take full accountability and will be better moving forward. Love Jess, Natalya and Carol.”

The conversation started with Jess, who said: “I can’t stand how it’s acceptable to walk around a beach in a thong.” Natalya added: “And do you know what’s worse? These girls that do wear them, fair enough if you’re going to wear them, at least if you’re going to bend over and put your towel on your bed, put like a sarong on.”

Carol then said she didn’t think such swimwear was “sexy for men to look at”, to which Jess said her husband Will doesn’t understand how women “think that is attractive” either. She added that he would say: “Put it away and leave something to the imagination.”

Carol added that she and her husband, Mark, were out at the beach one day and saw three girls “who had their whole a***s out” and that Mark also felt these outfits were not sexy.

While some fans agreed with the three women, many slammed them for their comments, especially those that focused on what men thought of bikinis. One wrote: “Have you considered that maybe girls who wear a thong on the beach simply don’t want a big white a**e when the rest of their bodies tan?”

Another added: “Tone deaf to even assume that women do this for the male gaze. Let people be.” While a third said: “It’s disgusting women still have to deal with other women tearing them down for their clothing choices.”

Another said: “With all the clips I keep seeing of Jess Wright & co degrading women for wearing a thong bikini on holiday, let this be your reminder that it’s YOUR life, YOUR body and you can do whatever YOU want.”

This comes just a few months after Carol took time on the podcast to say she has to “hold back” because her son, Mark Wright, is married. He is married to Michelle Keegan.

Carol was responding to a question from a listener who said their own mother-in-law acts like they “stole her son”. The 63-year-old responded: “It’s a hard one because everyone’s sons are like, you know, they’re your sons and… a woman comes along and they do take your son. But I’m a bit different because I actually hold back because of that reason.”

She went on: “I always think that when the girl comes into our family it’s quite they feel a bit overpowering to so many of us, so I seem to be like I hold back a bit.” Jess then said she hates it when people think of her as the “evil mother-in-law” because it couldn’t be further from the truth.

“It’s nothing like me, I’m totally the opposite,” Carol insisted. “If I thought that my son was going to marry somebody that wasn’t right for them, and you knew they weren’t right for them, and you knew it was never going to last… Of course a mother-in-law should step in a little bit.”
