Jessie Buckley’s husband couldn’t hide his emotion when his wife made history at the Oscars last night. The Hamnet star, 36, was the first Irish woman to win the coveted Best Actress gong and thanked her husband, Freddie Sorenson, while she was on stage in Hollywood.
Sporting a gorgeous pink and red satin frock, with her cropped blonde hair slicked back to reveal her flawless makeup, Jessie praised Freddie, who hugged his wife tightly before wiping his eyes at the Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles, surrounded by stars.
Paying tribute to her husband in her acceptance speech Jessie said: “You, Fred, I love you man. I love you; you’re the most incredible dad.”

Jessie, who won widespread acclaim for her role as William Shakespeare’s wife, Agnes, in Hament, met her husband on a blind date. The couple married in 2023 and welcomed their first child, a daughter together last year.
Speaking with British Vogue in January 2026, Jessie revealed that Freddie prefers to keep a low profile because he works in the mental health field. However, she described him as “extraordinary” and joked that he’s been “having a ball eating canapés” behind the scenes at her promotional events for Hamnet.
The couple were first set up on a blind date by a music executive before going for a walk along Regent’s Canal in London, followed by going for drinks.
Jessie previously revealed that Freddie was from London and keeps his identity out of the limelight due to his job.
The couple planned their wedding in seven weeks, tying the knot at their countryside home in 2023. The celebration, attended by just 40 guests, was catered by a café in London that they used to visit when they first started dating.
Jessie has already bagged a Bafta, Golden Globe and Critics Choice award for the 2025/2026 Awards Season before her Oscars success.
She plays Shakespeare’s wife Agnes – historically known as Anne – in Hamnet, an adaptation of Maggie O Farrell’s Hamnet, which follows the Shakespeares as they deal with the grief of losing their son.
Jessie previously said making Hamnet was a “life-changing experience” and she was “honoured” to be nominated in the Best Actress category for this year’s Oscars.
