Former Little Mix star Jesy Nelson has revealed how a tough moment raising her kids left her in tears as a doctor bluntly told her she ‘has no choice’

Jesy Nelson speaks about the challenges of parenting babies with SMA

Jesy Nelson has revealed the emotion in trying to help her babies, saying she fears she will hurt them. The former Little Mix star, 34, is campaigning to add SMA to the Newborn Screening Test after her twins’ devastating diagnosis.

And as she tries to spread the word, she has candidly opened up on life with the pair and the difficulties she is facing. She appeared on Heart Breakfast on Thursday and told hosts Jamie Theakston and Amanda Holden of a moment which recently made her cry.

“I remember when they were showing me how to put a feeding tube down their nose into her chest for secretions,” Jesy said. “And I remember crying going ‘I don’t want to do this’ because she was crying and I’m like, I feel like I’m hurting her.

“She’s like ‘listen, I know this is horrible but you don’t have a choice you’ve got to do it because no one else is going to do this’ and you just have to suck it up and get on with it and I know that’s part of being a mum but you just never expect that you’re going to do this on your child.”

Jesy confessed: “For me, it’s everything, but for me the thing that I struggle the most with is the medical stuff on them. It’s everyday.”

She went on to open up on her everyday life as a single mum. Describing how the tots are so vulnerable still, Jesy admitted she has to be very careful and try not to take them too many places. But she is confident they will soon be “on the up”.

“They’ll get even stronger, they’re doing really well,” she gushed. And she admitted that her music career is on the backburner as she navigates parenthood.

When Jamie posed the question, Jesy said: “Look listen I’d never say never to music, but for me, my girls are my main focus. I’ll be honest with you, I’ve not got time, I really don’t.

“They are my whole heart and soul and my main focus, and I want to continue advocating for them and getting this heel prick test changed and getting them strong, that’s my main focus. Because that’s going to determine their future . That’s my main focus right now.

Jesy allowed cameras to document her life while she was expecting twin daughters Ocean Jade and Story Monroe Nelson-Foster, who were born in May 2025. The six-part series, called Jesy Nelson: Life After Little Mix, chronicles the star’s emotional experience as she navigated pregnancy complications.
