The incident reportedly took place on Friday, when the four-month-old son of Dimba Chatomba, a resident of Baljodi village under Noamundi block of West Winghbhum district, died during treatment at the Sadar Hospital in Chaibasa town.

As per local media reports, Chatomba had taken his son to a health camp organised in Noamundi where health workers had arranged an ambulance and sent them to Community health centre (CHC) in Jagannathpur, considering the serious health condition of his son.

Doctors at the CHC referred the infant to Sadar Hospital in Chaibasa, where the child passed away on Friday afternoon, following which Chatomba reportedly purchased a bag and stuffed the body of his infant son before he left for his native village on a bus.

Reacting to the incident, former Jharkhand Chief Minister and Seraikela MLA Champai Soren described it as “unfortunate” and “inhuman”. “What can be more inhuman and regrettable even 25 years after the creation of Jharkhand”?, Soren wrote in a social media post on Saturday.
