Jim Carrey has spoken up after he shocked fans with his new look at the Cesar Awards in Paris after how unrecognisable he was lead some to believe he had been cloned

Jim Carrey has spoken up after a conspiracy theory that he had been cloned became popular online. The actor appeared at the Cesar Awards on 26 February with a striking new look.

Jim was pictured at the awards as he was accepting an honorary award. In the pictures, he had much longer hair than he usually does, and lighter eyes. This sparked theories that he had been cloned and it was his uncanny twin that went to the awards.

One fan wrote on X: “Yeah… umm NO! This is NOT Jim Carrey! Jim Carrey has dark brown eyes for one… this copycat/clone creature has light eyes.” Another added that they though the Bruce Almighty actor had been cloned years ago.

“I’ve been talking about human cloning for a long time and I’m glad to see it finally gain some traction,” they wrote. “Jim Carrey was cloned years ago. Something has changed behind the scenes to allow us to see unfinished and malfunctioning clones.”

A third said it could be a publicity stunt. “Calling it now,” they wrote. “That’s not Jim Carrey and its all a publicity stunt for a movie he’s in soon or a documentary.”

However, Jim has addressed the claims. His representative told the Daily Mail that the star was at the ceremony. Likewise, the general delegate of the awards, Gregory Caulier, explained that the visit was a long time in the making.

“Jim Carrey’s visit has been planned since this summer. From the outset, he was extremely touched by the Academy’s invitation,” he said. He added that Jim spent eight months practising French for his speech and was supported by 12 members of his family when he accepted it. This included his daughter, Jane, and his grandson, Jackson, as well as his partner Min Ah.

But the theories have continued, especially after drag artist Alexis Stone claimed to have impersonated Jim in Paris. Slexis shared a snap of Jim to Instagram and captioned it: “Alexis Stone as Jim Carrey in Paris.”

Her post, which showed a prosthetic face mask and false teeth, fooled several celebs, including Megan Fox. Megan wrote in the comments: “I can’t handle any more stress right no, I need to know if this is real.”

American actress Lisa Rinna added: “You blow me away.” Meanwhile, Love Islander Malin Andersson asked: “Is this legit??? Or is this a distraction?” Kim Kardashian’s former executive assistant commented: “you’re lying!!!!!!”

At the awards, Jim thanked his “wonderful family”. He said: “Thank you to my wonderful family, my daughter Jane, and my grandson Jackson. I love you now and forever. Thank you to my sublime companion, Min Ah. I love you Min Ah.”
