The singer has won his bid for a temporary restraining order to stop footage of his arrest in 2024 from being released. The 45-year-old pop star was driving in Sag Harbor, New York in June 2024 when he was pulled over in his car by police.
He later pleaded guilty to a traffic violation and driving while ability impaired. But now Timberlake’s lawyers have launched a bid to stop the video taken on police body cameras during his arrest from being made public. Legal papers were filed in Sag Harbor to try to stop the footage being released following Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) requests.

Now, Variety reports the singer’s legal team has been granted a temporary restraining order. The publication reports Suffolk County Judge Joseph Farneti approved the request on Thursday, March 5. Officials in Sag Harbor have been given until April 9 to submit extra documentation for the case.
The former NSYNC man was stopped by police after allegedly running a stop sign and swerving between lanes. Paperwork filed in Sag Harbor claimed the footage in question shows the singer “in an acutely vulnerable state during a roadside encounter with law enforcement”.

It adds that the film shows “intimate details” of Timberlake’s “physical appearance, demeanour, speech, and conduct”. PageSix reported Timberlake’s lawyer Michael Del Piano claimed that the release of the video would cause “severe and irreparable harm” to the singer’s “personal and professional reputation”. It also claimed it would subject him to “public ridicule and harassment”.
The attorney went on: “[There is] no legitimate public interest in understanding the operations of government … disclosure of this footage would constitute an unwarranted invasion [of Timberlake’s privacy].”
After he entered his guilty pleas, the singer was ordered to perform 25 to 40 hours of community service. He also had his New York driving licence was suspended for 90 days. Timberlake had to paid a $500 fine and a $260 surcharge.
The singer claimed to have only consumed one alcoholic drink before the incident. After the case concluded, the hit star urged his followers to learn from his mistakes.
He spoke out after the case in New York. Speaking to press outside the court room, he said: “What I’d like to say to everyone watching and listening, even if you’ve had one drink, don’t get behind the wheel of a car.
“There are so many alternatives. Call a friend, take an Uber, there are many travel apps, take a taxi. This is a mistake that I made, but I am hoping that whoever is watching and listening right now can learn from this mistake.”
