Kate Ferdinand has been married to husband Rio for more than six years, after tying the knot in September 2019, and he regularly shares gushing posts about his wife
Kate Ferdinand has admitted there is one particular gesture she doesn’t want her husband Rio to make this Mother’s Day.
The former TV star, 34, opened up about her Mother’s Day hopes on the latest episode of her podcast, Blended, in which she regularly updates fans on her family life. The episode, which is a Mother’s Day special, was pre-recorded before the war in the Middle East broke out, which Kate made clear in a disclaimer, which read: “This episode was recorded on Thursday 26th February, before the recent conflict in the Middle East. As mums and as a podcast that talks about family life, our hearts are with everyone affected by the devastating events that have unfolded since this recording.”
Kate is a proud step-mum to Rio’s three children from his marriage to Rebecca Ellison, who died in 2015, Lorenz, 19, Tate, 17, and Tia, 14. She also has four year old Cree and daughter Shae, two, with Rio, who she wed in 2019. However, she revealed in her latest podcast episode that she doesn’t want public acknowledgement from Rio on Mother’s Day.

Speaking on her Blended podcast, she said: “I don’t want Rio to post me on Mother’s Day. I really, really don’t. Because I don’t want him to be in a… I wouldn’t feel comfortable in him posting me without Lorenz, Tate and Tia’s mum. It’s complex. I don’t mind, like, I know you love me, I know the kids love me and I’m confident with that.
“Sometimes, as long as… who cares what everyone else thinks. I don’t care if people think that Rio don’t post me on Mother’s Day, I know he loves me. Sometimes you’ve got to just think about that. You’re loved, you’re safe, you’re okay – f**k everyone else.”
While that Mother’s Day wish is one that is easily fulfilled, her other hopes for the special occasion may be sadly scuppered. Elsewhere on the podcast, Kate revealed she hoped to travel from her new home of Dubai to the UK this weekend to be reunited with her stepsons – but as there are several travel disruptions across Dubai due to the ongoing war in the Middle East.
In the episode, Kate said of her Mother’s Day plans: “I’m actually flying home. We’re flying home on Mother’s Day because I just – we don’t want to leave the boys. It can be a great day. I just feel like we need to be together. We’re ok, we can get through anything when we’re together.
“So we’re flying home. We’re going to spend the day together. We’ve got no actual plans because we’re just gonna see how the day goes but just being together, I actually can’t… I’m anxious for the day but also just can’t wait to be together so, yeah, I’m gonna be in London on Mother’s Day.”
However, the strikes across the Middle East, including a drone strike hitting nearby Dubai airport earlier this week, may not make the trip back to Blighty possible. Kate and Rio moved to Dubai in August alongside Cree, Shae and Tia – who is Rio’s daughter from his marriage to his late wife Rebecca. Rio’s older sons Lorenz and Tate remained back in the UK to follow their blossoming football careers.
