Katie Price and Peter Andre have issued a joint statement today as they spoke of their plan to ‘stand united for their children’ after years of public rows after their 2009 split
Katie Price and Peter Andre stunned fans today by issuing a shock joint statement vowing they will never speak about each other publicly again. The former couple were married for four years until they split in 2009 and continue to co-parent Junior and Princess together.
Following the highs of their I’m A Celebrity romance to the lows of their bitter break-up that was dogged by infidelity accusations, the pair have lived their relationship in the public eye. Their split saw Peter refuse to speak to Katie from the day he left, while Katie has publicly discussed their breakup numerous times – but after 17 years of animosity, a truce has finally been called.
It was their most recent row that prompted today’s damning statement that will put an end to a war of words forever.
The argument kicked off last summer when Katie let rip at Peter on a tell-all episode of her podcast, The Katie Price Show, blaming him and his management from coming between her and daughter Princess – as se discussed rumours of a fallout between her and her 18-year-old daughter as it was revealed she doesn’t feature on the teen’s ITV reality show, The Princess Diaries.
Katie fumed she was “very, very upset” that she wasn’t “allowed” to take part in her daughter Princess’ show and hit out at both Pete and his management company.
In the episode, Katie explained how her ex-management company, The CAN Group, are managing Princess’ career, despite her protests. Katie was managed by The CAN Group when she was in a relationship with Peter, but ties were severed between the former Page 3 model and the management when she and Peter split in 2009. In the episode of her podcast, she said: “I’ve always said, over my dead body would I ever want her to manage my kids because she doesn’t like me and Pete and me don’t talk. I am very, very, very upset that Princess has signed with them when she was 16. I wasn’t asked to look at any contracts so I don’t know what Princess has signed because it’s all to do with that side.”
Mum-of-five Katie, who shares Junior and Princess with her ex-husband Peter, says she feels “very disrespected” as a mum by the move. She added: “But now she’s managing Princess and Junior, out of my control, I want the best for Junior and Princess, always, and I will never get in the way of it. But what hurts my feelings – and it does upset me – is when your kids grow up, you go to their assemblies, you go to their Christmas things, you go to their awards, you know, you go to their football matches or their gymnastics, you’re involved in everything they do.
“And knowing that what my career has been, Princess is taking that same path – trying to do the same as what I’ve done – which I absolutely love and adore of Princess but I had not been allowed to go on any photoshoot, no signings or Superdrug openings or anything like that. Why? Because I’m not allowed and I’m not welcome.”
Katie continued to explain she had spoken to Princess about her hurt feelings, but alleges her management won’t allow Princess to take on career ventures because “they think I’m trash”. She adds: “Everyone knows she’s my daughter so what difference does it make?”
Pete and Princess’ management responded with a statement as they told the Mirror at the time: “As a company, our duty of care to our clients is paramount. We would never advise a client on their personal life unless asked and we have never stopped anyone seeing their families.”
In a later episode of her podcast, released the following week, Katie appealed to Peter to stop shunning her and asked for a sit down talk with Peter and PR team, The CAN Group who used to also represent her. She said: “I feel like I’ve missed out on so much and it’s so not fair to bring Princess as piggy in the middle so I think it’s about time all of us adults just sit down and talk about what their beef is with me and just get over it. Life would be such more at peace.”
Peter was left furious at her public outburst. Hitting back on Instagram he responded: “For sixteen years, I have stayed silent in the face of repeated lies from my ex-wife and her family, out of respect for my children and loved ones, but staying silent has been incredibly frustrating. That ends today.
“The latest comments about my children’s welfare and living arrangements compel me to set the record straight. For well-documented reasons, and for their safety, Junior and Princess came into my care in 2018 and remained with me until they reached adulthood. In 2019, the family courts issued a legally binding order to enforce this arrangement. I have never made this public before, out of respect for my children.
“In 2011 and 2015, publicly documented court cases, found my ex-wife had made false claims. She was ordered to pay substantial damages and legal costs, and to apologise, to me and my management. The same falsehoods are being repeated today. Unfortunately, there are many more lies and baseless accusations I have yet to address. Those will now be dealt with in the coming months.”
A spokesperson for Katie later told the Mirror: “Kate is in a much better and clear headspace and is at peace with the situation, this was in the past and she doesn’t feel the need to bring up tit for tat comments, but more importantly she’s dealing with this the right way and it’s now in her lawyers hands. Kate will no longer be gaslight [sic] and bullied as she once was…” Staying true to his word, the truce today appears to put an end to Katie and Peter’s public spat.
Today they jointly announced that they were closing the door on their toxic past, and vowed to never speak about each other again – or risk breaking a new legal contract in their first united post since their marriage breakdown.
Taking to Instagram, they both posted: “Katie Price and Peter Andre have decided to close the door on the past and move forward into a new chapter with positivity and respect. We are both focused on creating a calm and supportive environment for our children.
“We have reached a mutual agreement, both legally and personally confirming that neither of us will speak negatively about the other going forward. This decision reflects a shared commitment to our family and stability.”
The statement continued: “We want to stand united for our children. We are hoping this is a start of a positive relationship. We ask for understanding and support from both the media and the public as we move ahead.”
