Katy Perry and Justin Trudeau have made their romance official with a high profile outing in Tokyo, where the pair joined Japan’s former prime minister Fumio Kishida and his wife Yuko for an elegant lunch

Katy Perry and Justin Trudeau made their relationship Instagram official during a very high profile outing in Tokyo, where the pair joined Japan’s former prime minister Fumio Kishida and his wife Yuko for an elegant lunch.

The pop star, 41, and the former Canadian PM, 53, were photographed smiling alongside the Kishidas after meeting them in the capital. Sharing an image from the lunch, Fumio Kishida, 68, wrote: “Former Canadian Prime Minister @‌JustinTrudeau visited with his partner and joined my wife and me for lunch.”

Justin reposted the picture on X with the message: “Katy and I were so glad to have the chance to sit down with you and Yuko.”

Fans of the pop star and politician were quick to share their feelings with many leaving comments underneath. One user wrote: “ok hard launch!!!” Another person joked: “That’s quite a Christmas card.” While someone else added: ” Katy Perry wasn’t on my 2025 bingo card for international diplomacy.”

Their diplomatic appearance comes months after rumours first began swirling about the pair. Katy’s split from actor Orlando Bloom, 48, was confirmed in July after almost a decade together.

The couple, who began dating in 2016 and got engaged on Valentine’s Day 2019, share a five year old daughter, Daisy, and had been living apart since the start of Katy’s Lifetimes Tour in April. Representatives later issued a joint statement confirming they would continue raising Daisy with “love, stability and mutual respect”.

A source told Us Weekly at the time that the breakup was “amicable” and “not contentious”. The same insider said Katy was upset but “relieved to not have to go through another divorce, as that was the worst time in her life.”

According to sources, their relationship had been winding down for months, with reports that they rented out their $30 million Montecito home to Chris Pratt and Katherine Schwarzenegger before officially announcing their split.

But just weeks after the news broke, Katy was linked to dad of three Justin. The pair were first spotted dining together in Montreal following one of her shows. Then TMZ later published photos of them at a restaurant and fans noticed Justin in the crowd at her Bell Centre concert days later.

In October the pair were seen snapped kissing on a yacht in California and later photographed strolling through Paris after Justin flew in to celebrate her birthday.

Justin’s romantic life has also been under close scrutiny. In August 2023, he announced his separation from wife Sophie after 18 years of marriage. Their statement said: “Sophie and I would like to share the fact that after many meaningful and difficult conversations, we have made the decision to separate.” It added that they remained “a close family with deep love and respect for each other.”

Months later, Sophie spoke candidly about the split on Katie Couric’s Next Question podcast, saying: “It hurts deeply, because in a way we have these two words in our language. You know, marriage is ‘success.’ Separation and divorce is ‘failure.’ But life happens in between.”
