Keira Knightley has sold the £3 million vineyard where she married James Righton and even though it was an “extraordinary” place, there was one thing that made her want to sell up
Keira Knightley has sold the £3 million vineyard where she married James Righton. The Hollywood actress, 40, tied the knot with James in the south of France in 2013, in the winemaking area known as Les Cinq Puits.
The couple, who went on to have daughters Edie, 10, as well as six-year-old Delilah together, enjoyed growing grapes for wine together in the multimillion pound space, but they have since made the decision to sell up because of how “difficult” it was to maintain.
She admitted: “It was actually drinkable. It was absolutely amazing. We got really into it. It’s great because of the stories of the winemakers. It’s an extraordinary thing – how they make them and how difficult it is, particularly if you’re doing it organically. We don’t have the vineyard now.”

The star joined Nick Grimshaw and Michelin star chef Angela Hartnett on the Dish from Waitrose podcast and was also asked if she watches festive classic Love Actually like millions of us do. But she confessed: “I’ve seen it once. If you’re in it, it would be weird if, I was watching my own…. yeah!
“Somebody wanted me to say [a line from the film], but I hadn’t seen it. So, I was like, I don’t know what you’re talking about! I realised that there’s whole languages that are going on. It’s actually quoting me at me, but I don’t realise that.
The Pirates of the Caribbean star, who burst onto the film scene as a teenager when she was cast in Bend It Like Beckham, recently admitted that she has had to be more selective about the kind of work she takes on and prefers to be able to stay home in London.
“That’s the problem. I’ve definitely got a delete button in my head for every single line that I’ve ever said in any film that I’ve ever done. Literally, as soon as I’ve done the scene, it’s gone. Even if I had to redo the scene, I’ve got to relearn it.
“So then when people kind of come over and they get a very particular look on their face when they’re obviously quoting me. I get the look, but I have no idea what the line is.”
She said: “For actors that’s very difficult because we move all over the world. So, I’ve really tried to kind of keep it in London, and been really fortunate that I could make that work.” The Hollywood star, who picked up up an agent when she was just six years old, enjoyed a massive rise to fame which saw her become one of the most sought-after stars in the world by her mid-teens. It was a period that, she says, sent her “mad” as her family home was staked out by paparazzi desperate to get photos of her.
Keira went to great lengths to avoid intrusion, and at one point, considered quitting altogether. Speaking to The Times, she recalled: “One day, I was like, ‘I’m out.’ And my family backed me. They said, ‘Just f***ing walk.’ ”
Keira called her agent and told them not to accept any more scripts before taking an extended trip around Europe, using her acting gifts to disappear completely. “I was very good,” she said.
“Museums, trains… no one expects to see you there. I was very scruffy, which they also wouldn’t have expected. You just don’t make eye contact, go a bit hunched. I kind of slithered.” The star eventually made a huge comeback to acting, and won acclaim for her role in Black Doves last year.
