EXCLUSIVE: Kerry Katona is now going to search for answers down the private healthcare route after she experienced severe pains in her stomach that left her ‘screaming in pain’

After her hospital dash last week, Kerry Katona has given a candid update on her health.

Former Atomic Kitten star Kerry, 45, was left ‘screaming in pain’ before an ambulance was called for her and she was given morphine by paramedics and taken into hospital. Later, Kerry was diagnosed with a condition called colitis, which the NHS describe as a longterm condition which causes inflammation of the colon and rectum.

After almost three days in hospital – half of which Kerry spent in a bed in a corridor – the star has now revealed her decision to look for answers to treat her condition privately. In her latest new! magazine column, Kerry gives an update on her health as she writes: “As I revealed in last week’s column, I went into hospital in an ambulance because I was getting severe pains – I thought I was going to give birth! While I was there I had a CT scan and I was diagnosed with colitis.

“I was sent home with morphine and told only to eat bland food – which I’m gutted about because I love spicy food! As lovely as the doctors and nurses were, I’m going to have to go private and find out what the hell’s going on. It’s nothing against the NHS though.”

However, being told to steer clear of her beloved spicy foods isn’t the only instruction she’s been given by the doctors as she also revealed she’s been put on bed rest. Kerry explained: “After leaving the hospital last week, I’ve been told I’m supposed to be on bed rest, which is quite handy because I am tired a lot of the time. My condition is to do with fatigue as well and it does make you feel tired – I could literally go to sleep right now!

“And I’ve noticed I’ve been in bed a lot and now I know why – I’ve looked into colitis and the fatigue I’m experiencing has a lot to do with it.” This comes after Kerry revealed on her Instagram that she had been rushed to hospital after experiencing severe pains in her stomach.

In a video posted in the early hours of the morning last Friday, Kerry told her fans: “Hi guys it’s 2.10 in the morning and I have been in hospital since yesterday – yesterday morning.” She then shows a intravenous cannula in her arm before panning the camera around to show her bed is near the nurses station as she’s in the hospital corridor. “It’s very full so unfortunately, I’m on a bed in the hall.” She added: “I have something called colitis – something to do with my bowel. So it’s been s**t – excuse the pun. I haven’t slept since yesterday, the day before. I’m in the right place.”

The star opened up about the experience after her stint in hospital, writing in her new! magazine column: “I was taken into hospital in an ambulance at the end of [the] week. I was in so much pain I was screaming so the paramedics had to give me morphine there and then.

I was in a bed in the hallway for a day and a night before I was given a room because of how full the hospital was – I was quite shocked to hear apparently all the hospitals are like that at the minute.”
