April in Mumbai calls for fabrics that breathe and colours that do not fight the heat. Kiara Advani arrived with the answer for the Nita Mukesh Ambani Cultural Centre’s third anniversary. For the evening, she stepped out wearing House of Masaba’s ‘Gulposh’ sari, making a convincing case that blush pink and sage green, held together by artisanal crafts, is the definitive warm-weather celebrations formula.

In the fresh colours of spring, sage green and soft pink, the sari, crafted in crepe silk, is characterised by its fluid fall, subtle sheen and featherlight quality. The sari carries delicate buta work across its canvas, along with an embroidered scalloped border. “But it is the pallu that I wanted to be the centre of focus,” says designer Masaba Gupta, adding, “I wanted the sari to feel light, yet look heavy enough to be worn for important and elaborate occasions. The pallu showcases our signature patchwork technique and is finished with gold embroidery in ‘sitara’ and ‘dabka’ kaam, featuring House of Masaba motifs.” The Gulposh is about bringing three crafts together in one sari without one overpowering the other.
