The Bachelorette star Konrad Bien-Stephen has died aged 35. His manager confirmed the news in a statement as tributes pour in from heartbroken fans. The reality star was known for his appearances on The Bachelorette in 2021 and The Challenge last year.
His manager confirmed the star had died on Monday, writing: “It is with deep sadness that we share the news of the passing of Konrad Bien-Stephen.”
“We ask that you respect the privacy of their family during this incredibly difficult time. No further information will be shared at this stage. Our thoughts are with all who loved him.”
His ex-partner, Abbie Chatfield, said that while they haven’t spoken in years, she was “devastated for his friends and family.” She wrote online: “I have seen the news of Konrad’s death, and I have known the news for a few days now. Thank you to the people reaching out to me to let me know or to send their support”.
The podcast host continued: “Konrad was such a kind and sweet person to everyone. A very caring man who deserved to live a very very long life. I am so heartbroken that he doesn’t get to do that. And that his loved ones don’t get to experience that full, long life with him.”
Tributes continued to pour in, as a friend wrote: “One of the kindest, sweetest and most authentic of all. I’ll miss your hugs brother”, while another person added: “beautiful boy, you were one of the kindest people and you made me smile every time I saw you, you will be missed.”
Fans have said they are ‘speechless’ and ‘heartbroken’ as another added: “When you are a kind and sensitive soul like you were, this world can be too much to handle. I hope the peace you so longed for has now been found”.
Konrad won hearts on the first season of The Bachelorette to feature both male and female contestants. He quickly became known for his iconic fashion sense and big heart.
He featured on Brooke Burton’s season of the show and while Brooke didn’t pick him as the winner in the end, Konrad was a fan favourite and gained a big following online.
During the shows season, he confirmed he was in a relationship with Abbie Chatfield, however they soon went their separate ways. He then went on to date Australian ARIA-winning artist Thelma Plum.
Megan Marx, who Konrad explored a romantic connection with on The Challenge, shared a heartbreaking post. She wrote: “Konrad has chosen to step off this wild, stubborn road before the rest of us were ready. He was a good friend. And f**k was he was funny! Witty. Made me laugh in that deep, unexpected way that catches in your chest and makes the whole day feel lighter.”
She added: “I keep thinking about the things he still had lined up – that wandering horse trek somewhere wide and dusty, the fiddle under his chin, motorcycle trips, the quiet courage of getting his art out into the world. Trying to make the world a little better. Homey. All the pieces of a life still calling to him.
