Production has officially begun on the new Kunchacko Boban and Lijomol Jose starrer, following a traditional pooja ceremony earlier this week. The untitled project is written by Shahi Kabir, known for his realistic approach to police stories, and directed by editor Kiran Das in his first outing as filmmaker.
A Promising Start for a New Vision
The film is jointly produced by T-Series Films and Panorama Studios, the same banners behind Raid 2 and the upcoming Tiki Taka. This partnership hints at a large-scale release and a production with strong backing.
According to the team, the film will be a psychological thriller set in a police environment, a theme that aligns with Shahi Kabir’s earlier work. In fact, the makers had previously invited real-life policemen from Palakkad to participate in supporting roles, emphasizing their commitment to authenticity.
The technical crew includes cinematographer Arjun Sethu, composer Justin Varghese, and production designer Dileep Nath: a line-up that suggests a visually rich and sonically layered film.
A Trusted Team with New Energy
For Kunchacko Boban, this film marks his third collaboration with Shahi Kabir after Nayattu and Officer on Duty. His growing body of work continues to explore complex characters within tense social settings, and this film looks set to extend that trend. Lijomol Jose, last seen in Samshayam, joins him as the female lead, adding further weight to the project.
Kiran Das, who has edited several acclaimed Malayalam films such as Joji, Ishq, Thondimuthalum Driksakshiyum, Jan.E.Man, Rorschach, and Romancham, steps into the director’s chair with deep experience in storytelling rhythm and structure. He previously worked with Shahi Kabir on Joseph and Ela Veezha Poonchira, both known for their emotional depth and strong performances.
Sources suggest the new film will combine intense psychological drama with grounded realism, a balance that both Kiran and Shahi are known for in their previous work.
The supporting cast reportedly includes Sudheesh, Shaju Sreedhar, Krishnapraba, Sibi Thomas, Sabumon, Arun Cherukavil, and Vineeth Thattil. Together, they bring a strong mix of familiar faces from the Malayalam film circuit.
Kunchacko Boban’s upcoming releases include Oru Durooha Saahacharyathil directed by Ratheesh Balakrishnan Poduval, Patriot by Mahesh Narayanan, Officer on Duty, and a new project with Antakshari writer Renjit Varma. Lijomol Jose, meanwhile, is part of Baby Girl with Nivin Pauly and editor Manu Antony’s first film as director.
