Lamar Jackson returns to practice with Ravens season on the brink

Lamar Jackson is back on the field.

The Baltimore Ravens quarterback returned to practice on Wednesday afternoon ahead of the squad’s Week 8 matchup against the Chicago Bears on Sunday.

It was Jackson’s first practice appearance since suffering a strained hamstring in Baltimore’s 37-20 loss to the Kansas City Chiefs on Sept. 28 — an injury that has cost him two games thus far.

“Obviously he was missed,” said Ravens center Tyler Linderbaum, speaking with reporters after practice. “He’ll continue to get better and better, and we’ll be happy to have him out on the field whenever that is.”

Jackson, 28, joined his team on the field roughly 20 minutes into practice, and could be seen running around and tossing some warmup throws, according to The Athletic’s Jeff Zrebiec

It was a welcome sight after Jackson missed practice Monday after the Ravens were on a bye the previous week.

There were rumblings that Jackson could still miss the Bears game this week.

“I had a couple of conversations with people familiar with this situation that led me to believe Jackson might miss another game while recovering from the injury,” said ESPN’s Dan Graziano earlier Wednesday morning.

Despite his practice return, Jackson’s status ahead of Sunday’s matchup remains unclear for the reeling Ravens.

Ravens coach John Harbaugh told reporters he has “no shareable injury intelligence” when asked about Jackson playing.

Baltimore has fallen to a paltry 1-5 record this season, their sole win coming against the Cleveland Browns in Week 2.

The Ravens’ offense has completely stalled behind backup QB Cooper Rush, getting outscored 61-13 in losses to the Texans and Rams.

Through his first four games of the season, Jackson completed 68 of 95 passes for 869 yards and 10 touchdowns — in addition to 166 yards on the ground with a rushing score — before his third-quarter exit against Kansas City.
