Kiffin confirmed the seismic college football news late on X (formerly known as Twitter) on Sunday afternoon with the kind of reaction we’ve come to expect from the longtime coach.

Kiffin shared his statement on social media to signify that he was indeed headed to Baton Rouge as the Tigers’ next football coach. In his statement, Kiffin shifted blame to the higher ups at Ole Miss as for why he will not be coaching the Rebels in the upcoming College Football Playoff. Meanwhile, this entire process played out as chaotically as possible which is very much in line with Kiffin’s persona.

Ole Miss will now have to rely on defensive coordinator Pete Golding as the team’s reported interim coach to navigate the upcoming College Football Playoff.

Here’s Kiffin’s statement on his departure from Ole Miss.

Kiffin leaving Ole Miss to take the LSU job is just such a jarring reality for the 2025 college football landscape. It felt apparent for some time that this was the move Kiffin would make, but to see it actually happen is still so wild.

Well, Tiger fans, meet Coach Kiffin. Just hope the Alabama job doesn’t come open any time soon if he starts winning in Death Valley.
