Preview for Las Vegas Raiders @ Denver Broncos
Denver Broncos quarterback Bo Nix believes their season hinges on the outcome of their divisional match-ups, starting on TNF against the Las Vegas Raiders.
The Broncos have compiled a 7-2 record and seem well set to clinch a place in the post-season but their final eight games sees five meetings with teams from the AFC West and Nix knows things can change quickly.
“We have to win them,” he said. “These are the ones that have the most weight to them. These are the ones that you have to go in there and win to set yourself up for the playoffs. As a team, these are the most important for us.”
The Broncos are the favorites to clinch their first divisional crown since 2015 and Nix admits there is a lot on the line.
“Obviously, [for] this organization, city and fans — [we] have been playing these teams for a long time,” he added. “A lot of rivalries. These are the fun ones. It’s like playing a conference game in college.
“These are the ones you look forward to. These are why you’re a Bronco, to beat teams like this. Just like all the other ones, it’s not going to be easy. We’re going to have to play really well. It will be a fun ‘Thursday Night Football’ environment.”
The Raiders will rely on quarterback Geno Smith, who enjoyed four passing touchdowns and a completion percentage of 74.4 against the Jacksonville Jaguars last time out.
But he will have to have a near-perfect night against the best pass rush in the NFL.
“There’s a great pass rush on every single defense in the NFL. And protecting our guys up front with getting the ball out, not holding it too long, is very important,” Smith said Tuesday.
“And it’s important that our guys are running their routes and getting to the spots. The protection is critical up front, and then obviously me being accurate with the ball, getting it out on time and on rhythm, allowing us to succeed and be at our best self.”
