Light plane crashes into the mangroves near Broome

Several people are believed to have been involved in a light plane crash in the mangroves off the coast of Broome on Thursday morning.

Police have confirmed they were notified about the crash in shallow waters at Fisherman Bend in Roebuck about 11.25am.

St John WA said they are responding to the incident, and are believed to be attending to reports of several patients.

Multiple crews are en route, along with emergency services and police, and it is understood to be a “difficult retrieval”.

One person reportedly sustained non-life-threatening injuries.

The area where the plane is believed to have crashed is 15 kilometres to the east of the town centre, and is bordered by shrub and mangroves along the coast.

An Australian Transport Safety Bureau spokesperson said they were aware of the incident.

“The ATSB has been notified of an accident involving a Cessna 441 at Broome and is currently gathering further information,” he said.
