Lily Allen has been at the centre of a storm after the release of her latest album, which is said to be heavily focused on the breakdown of her marriage to Stranger Things actor David Harbour
Lily Allen has been slammed following the release of her album. Last week, the popstar released her fifth album, West End Girl, her first since the release of No Shame in 2018.
And fans were quick to speculate that the record is heavily inspired by the breakdown of her marriage to Stranger Things star David Harbour. The catchy record has been sitting at the top of the UK iTunes Album Charts and has been streamed over eight million times since Friday.
But since the release, Harbour, 50, has gone into complete lockdown and has even turned off commenting on his social media posts. The record focuses on topics including an open marriage, cheating and vasectomies.
Over the weekend, Allen, 40, said that people outside of her life had no idea what was going on until she sat and cried for two hours in the recording studio while creating the record. While she says she doesn’t know if she can say everything is true, she does insist she has “artistic license”, and things which she experienced in her relationship are on the record.
But now, a source has claimed that Lily is “no angel”. A source said: “Lily’s hardly an angel. She gave David a totally false idea of what and who she is; she wanted the big house and the lifestyle, and then she hated it.”
They added to the Daily Mail: “Men find her hard work; there is something about her which makes them pull their hair out and run a mile. Same thing happened with her ex Sam Cooper. She was advised that if she wanted to sell albums, then she would have to sing about David, and now she’s cashing in.”
Meanwhile, other sources have claimed that Lily’s timing of the release has been “very deliberate” to coincide with the Stranger Things finale, which David would be promoting. Instead, he can apparently no longer be part of the press tour due to the situation as it would be an “utter embarrassment” for him to face a grilling from the media.
One track, titled Madeline, sees Lily speak about an alleged deal she struck with Harbour to engage in an open relationship. She says on the track: “Be discreet and don’t be blatant, there had to be payment, it had to be with strangers, but you’re not a stranger Madeline.”
Now, the real life Madeline has come forward and identified herself as costume designer, Natalie Tippett, who is believed to be the woman at the centre of Lily and Harbour’s split. She said: “Of course I’ve heard the song. But I have a family and things to protect.”
Natlie added to the Daily Mail: “I have a two-and-a-half-year-old daughter, and I understand this is going on. It’s a little bit scary for me.” It’s believed she met David while he was filming the Netflix movie We Have A Ghost in 2021.
The project took place in New Orleans and Natalie worked in the costume department. The affair allegedly began shortly after the movie started shooting.
