Lisa Armstrong is mending a broken heart this week that has been shattered by two blows

Ant McPartlin’s ex wife Lisa Armstrong was feeling far from romantic this Valentine’s Day. The award-winning make-up artist has been nursing a broken heart following the death of her beloved dog Hurley.

The chocolate Labrador that Lisa had shared with Ant for 12 years passed away this week. The former couple have been left totally devastated by the loss of their beloved pet, with Ant rushing from the launch of Britain’s Got Talent to say his goodbyes with Lisa at the vet.

The pair adopted Harvey when they were happily married and continued to co-parent him after their bitter split.

Returning to Instagram following the sad news, Lisa shared a poem about being on her own over Valentine’s weekend.

“Roses are flowers, pebbles are stones, here’s a big shout to those on their own,” began the poem.

“Count yourself lucky and try not to sob, look at the bright side, you’re not with a n*b”

It’s been a rough week for Lisa who along with Ant had to make the decision to put Hurley to sleep when he was too ill to recover from illness.

Ant previously credited Hurley with helping him to overcome his battle with drink and drug addiction and Lisa stayed close with their pet as she navigated her divorce from the TV star.

The former couple have been comforted by loved ones this week with Lisa posting a video on Instagram on Saturday that showed a girl releasing hearts into the sky.

Ant previously spoke about his bond with Hurley during an interview with The Sun On Sunday in 2019, following his stint in rehab.

He said: “There’s a loyalty and a love and a companionship with Hurley that you can’t describe. He never tells me off and is always pleased to see me.

“I came out of a shop the other day and there was a woman on the floor cuddling Hurley. She said to me, “It’s the dog from the papers!” Hurley’s a celebrity.”

When Ant and Lisa split in 2018 after more than two decades together, the presenter refused to surrender full custody. “She can have anything she wants – except the dog,” he allegedly told his lawyers.

Ant went on to marry his assistant Anne Marie Corbet, with whom he now shares son Wilder Patrick. The sad news about Hurley comes after The Mirror reported last week that Lisa has split from her actor boyfriend Grant Kilburn.

The Strictly make-up artist and Grant are said to have parted ways in January, just weeks after friends claimed she was ‘happier than ever’ in her new relationship.

“It’s very sad but it wasn’t to be,” said a friend of the couple.

Weeks ago insiders said Lisa had found a renewed sense of happiness in the relationship.

“She’s been so used to being in relationships where she played second fiddle. This time, she’s number one. She’s taking it slow, she doesn’t want to get hurt again – but she’s being treated like a princess and her new man cannot do enough for her.

“His life revolves around hers and he adores her – and he tells her so all the time. She’s doing so well with her career, she’s come into her own right and he’s encouraged that.”
