Vijayawada: Education minister Nara Lokesh has sought the support of the Centre for undertaking the skill census in Andhra Pradesh.

The minister arrived in New Delhi on Monday and met several Central ministers to discuss issues of AP’s development. He called on IT minister Ashwini Vaishnaw and explained to him the skill portal developed with AI and about an AI-based interview system in order to overcome problems in the pilot project taken up at Mangalagiri. He told the minister that a skill census would be taken up in the entire state shortly.

Lokesh also sought the support of the Union minister for the Ratan Tata Innovation Hub and the MeitY startup hub and for setting up the Centre of Excellence in Ratan Tata Innovation Hub. He also pleaded for Central support for promoting AI in a big way in AP under ‘India AI Mission.’

He met Union minister of state for skill development Jayant Chaudhary and sought his support for the National Skill Training Institute. AP has identified a five acre site for this at Pedagantyada in Visakhapatnam. The institute, he said, would help set up several units to strengthen the national-level skill training and development.

Earlier, Lokesh visited Parliament and met the party MPs in the TD Parliamentary party office.

The AP education minister called on the Union education minister Dharmendra Pradhan and sought his support to improve the standards of education in the state. Lokesh urged the Union minister to sanction 11 Navodaya Vidyalayas and initiate steps to set up 12 Kendriya Vidyalayas in AP.

He also pleaded for financial aid worth `4,400 crore under the Strengthening Teaching-Learning and Results for States (STARS) initiative and sought sanction of additional funds of `1,270 crore from the Centre.

The AP minister also sought Central permission to set up 155 smart kitchens under the PM-POSHAN scheme. He also explained about the AP government teaching constitutional rights and duties to the children by bringing out a book called ‘Balala Bharata Rajyangam’.

He informed the Union minister that the AP government had started a central smart kitchen in Kadapa for the first time in the country. The Union minister appreciated the initiation of such programmes by the state government.

Lokesh invited the Union minister to inaugurate the autism centre at Chinakakani in Guntur district.
