Coleen Nolan, whose daughter Ciara Fensome celebrated the birth of a baby boy named Sidney Ray Innes, shared the revelation on a recent podcast episode alongside ITV co-star Judi Love

Coleen Nolan has opened up about the “pressure” faced by children in modern times as she recounted a moment when she found her daughter crying. Coleen and Loose Women co-star Judi Love addressed the topic in a chat that emerged before Coleen’s daughter, Ciara Fensome, celebrated the birth of a baby boy named Sidney Ray Innes.

Speaking on a recent episode of the Loose Women: Just Between Us podcast, the ITV panellist responded to a listener’s “parenting dilemma” regarding how their daughter should balance education and romance.

Judi, relaying the message, explained that the “hard-working” daughter was in the midst of a “big year”, as she had her GCSEs to focus on, but she’d also started dating, and things were starting to look “serious”.

However, there was a difference of opinion between the fan and their husband on how to approach this scenario. According to the husband, she shouldn’t see her boyfriend during the week so that she can concentrate on her studies.

The fan, who was more trusting of the teenager, believed she could “do both”, noting how seeing her boyfriend and having some much-needed “respite” could only benefit the situation.

They also shared a concern that the daughter, faced with an outright ban, would only do it behind their backs anyway, so they should give her the “freedom” to make her own decisions.

Coleen quickly agreed with the listener, and the two hosts proceeded to share their thoughts on the subject, with the duo pointing out the added complexity that social media could add in a ban, and Judi highlighted the importance of respite.

It would lead to Coleen, who now has three grandchildren, weighing in on the “pressure” faced by kids in modern times.

She claimed that, in the days of O-Levels, “very few went on to uni”, suggesting it was generally only for the “super bright kids”.

She explained: “Whereas now, there’s such this thing of they gotta pass their exams, gotta go to college, and then, ‘What uni are they going to?’ And I remember my daughter crying one day and saying to me, ‘I don’t want to go to uni’ because she didn’t have one…

“I think if you wanna be a doctor or a lawyer or something where you need 12 A-stars and certain degrees to carry on doing what you doing, if you’ve got a teenager going, ‘I’m not really sure what I wanna do’, then why you gonna force them into uni. Who you doing it for, to impress the neighbours?”

In a touching post in the aftermath of Sidney’s birth, new mum Ciara, who shares her baby boy with her fiancé, Maxx Innes, detailed how she was “so proud of all 3 of us”.

She wrote on Instagram and Facebook: “Sidney Ray Innes, 29/10/2025, 9lb 10. So proud of all 3 of us. I have carried him for 9 months but @maxkerrinnes you have carried us all this whole time.”
