For the inauguration of PNG Jewellers in Varanasi, Madhuri Dixit Nene wore Mrunalini Rao’s purple silk Mahamayi sari, styled by Sukriti Grover. The sari’s strongest feature is its intricate linear zardozi border, set against a saturated purple silk base. She paired it with a sleeveless blouse in the same shade, cut with a wide neckline that left room for the jewellery. Silver wedges picked up on the sari’s metallic detailing without breaking the palette.

Jewellery from PNG Jewellers included a layered diamond choker, curved earrings, stacked bangles and a ring, adding brightness against the deeper purple silk. Her hair, styled by Sheetal F Khan, was worn in side-parted waves and kept away from the neckline to let the jewellery shine, while Billy Manik kept the makeup soft with a warm wash across the lids, fluttery lashes, a plum-mauve lip and a purple bindi.

“Heavy neckpieces can clash with densely embroidered sari edges. Keep it clean by leaving the neck bare. Swap the wedge sandals for a pair of kitten-heeled slingbacks in silver; this will instantly elevate the look,” says Manglien Gangte, Vogue India fashion associate.
