A Phil Foden-inspired Manchester City enjoyed a dominant 3-1 Champions League victory over Borussia Dortmund at the Etihad.

England midfielder Foden was the star of the show with two goals either side of half-time, with Erling Haaland also on target against his former side to continue his sensational scoring form this season.

Waldemar Anton pulled one back for the visitors but it would prove a consolation as City stayed unbeaten in the Champions League this season with three wins and a draw so far.

Manchester City 4-1 Borussia Dortmund as it happened

City were put on the backfoot early on by the away side with Karim Adeyemi testing the defence with a few moments, while Dortmund’s long throw was another threat for the hosts to deal with.

But the 2023 winners soon grew into the game, with Foden a driving force and, having missed a golden chance a few moments earlier, he had City in front with a fine finish.

After being fed the ball by Tijjani Reijnders, Foden had all the time in the world to turn and roll the ball into the back of the net.

Not long after, City were 2-0 up with Haaland punishing his former side’s missed chances by slamming the ball home from Jeremy Doku’s after somehow being left unmarked in the box in what was his 18th goal of the season.

After the break, Foden had his second of the evening with another nice finish having evaded the challenge of a number of players in black and yellow.

Dortmund pulled a goal back with 15 minutes to go after a quick free-kick allowed the ball to be whipped into the City box before Anton slid home and reduced the arrears.

But it was game, set and match in added time when substitute Rayan Cherki glided into the area before finding the back of the net via a deflection for what was the Frenchman’s first Champions League goal.
