Margot Robbie’s new look should come with a warning

Can someone please check on Margot Robbie? The Wuthering Heights and Barbie actress appeared front row at Paris Fashion Week for Chanel on Monday night with a dramatic new look that’s raising eyebrows.

Robbie’s sheer jeans are hardly surprising, following the nearly nude Giorgio Armani dress she wore to the September premiere of A Big Bold Beautiful Journey. It’s her dramatic long bob with a wispy fringe that has hairdressers holding their scissors at the ready.

“There’s a saying that a woman who cuts her hair is about to change her life,” says Deanna Parker Attwood, three-time Australian Hairdresser of the Year winner and art director of Wieselmann Salon in South Melbourne. “Putting a fringe in is something that people do when they want to feel edgier.”

“Margot has what we call a scrappy eyebrow sweeping bang. It’s fresh, dramatic and suits the ‘It’ girl of the moment.”

At Salon Yazbek in Neutral Bay, Goldwell Ambassador Nathan Yazbek has seen a recent surge in bobs and lobs (long bobs).

“It’s a style that people request when they’re going through life changes,” Yazbek said. “Hair is an extension of how people feel on the inside and a dramatic haircut means that they want to be seen differently.”

With the new look, there’s no mistaking Robbie for Cathy in “Wuthering Heights” or Barbie (unless she’s been attacked by a talented young playmate with nail scissors).

“It’s very much a nineties style that’s a little bit messy, which makes Margot’s look on point,” Yazbek says. “The bangs frame her face, highlight her cheekbones and show her natural beauty.”

“The style is definitely a statement. Sometimes women wake up the next morning with bang regret because they’re not sure how to style it.”

For a seemingly low-maintenance look, effort is required for Robbie’s hairstyle.

“The trick is to blow-dry your bangs first,” Yazbek says. “If you leave them until last, they will dry and set incorrectly. You will also need a little bit of hairspray and oil to set the bangs in place and get that rock star vibe.”

Regular trips to the hairdresser are essential for maintaining fringes that stop just below the eyebrows, before they interfere with your vision and have you reaching for a headband in despair.

“Your fringe needs to be cut every two weeks,” says Attwood. “You also need to wash it regularly if you’re exercising regularly. You can even wash your fringe separately. They can be a bit of a pain.”

Robbie was facing style competition from best supporting actress Oscar-nominee Teyana Taylor, who debuted a silver-haired look while wearing a see-through raincoat and turtleneck dress with white sequin embellishment.

Fellow front-row member Kylie Minogue was a more familiar face in a matching lace-trimmed camisole top and skirt, with a familiar blow-out her crowning glory.

Actress Lily-Rose Depp demonstrated that when in doubt, try a hat instead, wearing an animal print topper.

On the runway, Matthieu Blazy’s ready-to-wear collection was an unqualified success
