Married At First Sight star Jules Robinson has revealed the haunting final message they sent to their co-star Mel Schilling, who died at the age of 54 weeks after announcing her cancer was terminal
Married At First Sight star Jules Robinson has shared the heartbreaking final message she shared with her co-star Mel Schilling on the night of her death. The MAFS star died just weeks on from announcing the sad news that her cancer was terminal.
Mel was diagnosed with colon cancer in 2023 and just earlier this month, she revealed to fans that doctors had told her cancer had spread to the left side of her brain, which was causing her headaches and numbness – and that they couldn’t do anymore.
Sadly, Mel died this week, surrounded by her husband Gareth and their daughter Maddie, 10, just two weeks after announcing the cancer had spread to her brain and she didn’t know how long she had left.
Since her death, tributes have flooded in for the reality star including from fellow Married At First Sight star Jules Robinson, who shared a message she had sent to her friend the night of her death.
“Just messaging to tell you that I love you and I’m thinking of you,” she wrote in the message that she sent on the night Mel died. Sharing that heartbreaking message, she penned: “I sent Mel a message last night before bed. And waking to this, I’m choosing to believe there was a little moment of connection there. That brings me some comfort.”
Jules’ husband Cam also had a message of support for Mel’s family in the wake of her sad death. Writing on social media, he penned: “Truly devastating. You are a beautiful soul @mel_schilling1. Thank you for your incredible friendship. Thank you for being so inspiring. Rest peacefully. We will love you always.”
Gareth, Mel’s husband, penned a heartfelt tribute to his wife. In it, he wrote: “Melanie Jane Brisbane-Schilling passed away peacefully today, surrounded by love. In her final moments, when I thought cancer had taken away her ability to speak, she ushered me closer and whispered a message for Maddie and me that will sustain me for the rest of my life.
“It took all of her remaining strength, and that gesture summed up our wee Melsie perfectly. Even then, her only thought was for Maddie and me. This is a woman who became a new mum and a TV star at 42 – and nailed both.”
Earlier this month, Mel explained she had been getting headaches and numbness down her side. She told fans: “Over Christmas, however, I began experiencing blinding headaches and numbness down my right side.
“After many tests I was told the cancer had spread to the left side of my brain and, despite subsequent radiotherapy sessions, my oncology team have now told me there is nothing further they can do. Hearing those words changes everything. So that’s where I am now. My light is starting to fade — and quickly. But I am still here, still fighting, and surrounded by the most incredible love.”
