In a statement to TMZ, Mary Cosby confirmed her son, Robert’s, passing. She revealed that her and Bishop Robert C. Cosby’s son, Robert had been called home to the lord. She stated that although their hearts are aching, they are at comfort, knowing that their son finally found peace. She further thanked their fans and followers for the prayers, as they are navigating the challenging phase of their lives. Mary Cosby, in the statement, said:

“Our beloved son Robert Jr. has been called home to the Lord. Though our hearts ache, we take comfort in God’s promise and in knowing he is finally at peace. We are grateful for your prayers and trust in the Lord to carry us through this time of sorrow.”

How did Mary Cosby’s son, Robert Cosby Jr. pass away?

While no further details have been revealed, it’s being reported that Robert Cosby Jr. passed away due to an alleged overdose. It was before 6 p.m local time on February 23, 2026, when the authorities were called as a 23-year-old male (Robert) was found not to be conscious and was not even breathing. It was said that he was given one dose of N**can and an over-the-counter nasal spray, which is basically used for reversing opioid overdoses.

After the SLCPD reached Mary’s Utah home, a death investigation had already begun. To mention, as per an audio obtained by PEOPLE, Robert was in a ‘full-arrest/medical emergency’. The passing of Robert was confirmed by her family through a statement to TMZ and through a social media post. PEOPLE also revealed that the shooting of season 7 of The Real Housewives of Salt Lake City has been put on a pause, which was all set to begin this week only. Bravo shared a statement to PEOPLE, over Robert’s passing, wherein it was stated:

“We are heartbroken to learn of the passing of Mary’s beloved son, Robert Jr. Mary is a cherished member of our family, and our thoughts, love, and deepest condolences are with her and her loved ones during this incredibly difficult time.”

Robert Cosby Jr’s troubled past

Robert Cosby Jr. had a troubled past. He had struggled with dr*g addiction, and he also opened up about the same. Robert started using the same being 16, after he tried X**ax at a party. He revealed on the 5th season of The Real Housewives of Salt Lake City that he was overusing ADHD medication A**erall and the opioid painkiller O**Contin so much so that he couldn’t feel a thing.

Robert further added that he then turned to he**in, and he started feeling that the world was not meant for him, and that he was a stain on the world. He said that he wanted to die, but it was due to his mother that he couldn’t take such a drastic step. To mention, Robert Cosby Jr. faced several arrests over the last 4 years, the first being in 2022, and the last being in 2025. He was secretly married to Alexiana Smokoff, and the duo filed for divorce, reportedly in November 2025. Robert’s last arrest was due to an incident in his ex-father-in-law’s house.
