Mary Cosby’s Son Robert ‘Wanted To Die’ Earlier, He Was ‘Not Breathing’ When 911 Was Called

Mary Cosby, a renowned American television personality, is going through a tough time in her life, as her son, Robert Cosby Jr. passed away. For the unversed, The Real Housewives of Salt Lake City star was married to Dana Harris, with whom she called it quits in 1998. Following this, after her grandmother passed away, Mary Cosby got married to her step-grandfather, Bishop Robert C. Cosby. The duo welcomed a son, Robert Cosby Jr. However, it was most recently reported that Robert passed away at the age of 23.

While not many details have been revealed, it was reported that Robert died due to an alleged overdose. Now, several details are emerging, and as per one of them, the 23-year-old was already unconscious and was not even breathing when 911 was called, as shared by PEOPLE through the obtained Salt Lake City police dispatch audio. Before 6 p.m of the local time on February 23, 2026, the authorities were called to Mary’s home, stating a ’23 old male (Robert) was ‘not conscious’ and was ‘not breathing’.

As per PEOPLE, the audio revealed that Robert was in a ‘full arrest/medical emergency’, which was why he was given one dose of Narcan and an over-the-counter nasal spray, which is used to reverse life-threatening opioid overdoses. A spokesperson earlier revealed that when the SLCPD reached Mary’s Utah home, it already turned into a death investigation.

Mary Cosby’s son, Robert Cosby Jr. talked about his struggles with addiction back in 2024. On the 5th season of The Real Housewives of Salt Lake City, while speaking to his mom, Robert revealed that at the age of 16, he started using both prescription and recreational drugs after he tried Xanax at a party. Robert also shared that he had been abusing other prescription drugs like the ADHD medication Adderall and the opioid painkiller OxyContin.

Robert Cosby Jr. admitted to overusing the drugs so much so that he would even use 10 at once. He shared that ‘he couldn’t even feel it at all’. When his condition deteriorated, he turned to heroin, and he, back then, told his mother that he ‘wanted to die’ but couldn’t do so because of his mom. He told his mom that he thought that he was a stain on this world and was not made for this place, while Mary was the reason, he never took such a step. He told Mary:

“I felt like a stain — I just felt like this world wasn’t for me. You’re the only reason I didn’t kill myself.”

Robert was arrested in 2022 with DUI charges, and in 2025, he was again arrested with multiple charges. He was married to Alexiana. It was a secret marriage, and the 2025 arrest of Robert happened after an incident took place at his father-in-law’s house. It was in November 2025 when Alexiana filed for divorce from Robert. Later, Mary shared that she and Robert Sr. moved Alexiana out of their house, and as the latter and her son snuck out to be together, it was Alexiana’s dad who had her son arrested. Mary, at that time, felt that it was a blessing in disguise that the legal matters erupted. Robert was in rehab back in December 2024, and after that, his mom said that a one-month-rehab stay made her son a new person.
