After being impressed with him, the author of It Ends With Us wrote her phone number and placed it on the windshield of William’s truck. Eventually, they started dating and with time their bond strengthened. After dating for a few years, Colleen and William tied the knot in 2000, in a simple and intimate wedding ceremony. On May 25, 2025, Colleen Hoover took to her Instagram handle to pen a heartfelt note for her husband. In the same, she gave a glimpse into her weekend, during which the couple celebrated their 25th wedding anniversary. She explained that to surprise her, William wore a merch that he made to celebrate Colleen’s first producing role. A part of her note can be read as:

“We had the best weekend celebrating 25 years together. Heath showed up on set wearing #RemindersOfHim merch he made to celebrate my first producing role and then he let me dress him for our dinner date and night out. First time I’ve seen him in jeans since the photo we took when I was 17. Then we somehow ended up at a club where we renewed our vows at 1am and celebrated with drinks that tasted like cough syrup and the best group of people who hate nothing and love everything.”
