Meet Gary Woodland’s Wife, Gaby Woodland, Amid His Lead At The Houston Open Post PTSD Diagnosis

Gary Woodland is a renowned American professional golfer who plays on the PGA Tour. His golf career began at the University of Kansas, where he studied on a golf scholarship. After turning pro, Gary played a handful of tournaments on the Nationwide Tour before finally earning a chance to play on the PGA Tour in 2009. It is worth noting that Gary won his first major championship almost a decade later at the 2019 US Open.  

Currently, Gary is in the spotlight after he surged to a three-shot lead at the 2026 Houston Open, shortly after he revealed that he is suffering from PTSD following brain surgery. According to reports, if he remains in this form, Gary might contend for his first PGA Tour victory in seven years. Well, as fans keep their eyes peeled to see if Gary can achieve this feat, let us introduce you to his biggest supporter, his wife, Gabby Woodland. 

Gabby Woodland attended Baylor University  

Before turning professional, Gary Woodland grew up in Topeka, Kansas. Here, he attended Washburn University, followed by the University of Kansas. It is worth noting that even his college journey was well-documented, as he was swiftly rising through the sport’s ranks. On the other hand, his now-wife, Gabby’s journey was anything but well-documented.  

From the minimal details that she has shared from her life out of the public eye, Gabby used to be a student at Baylor University. Sometime after she got married to Gary, the pro golfer also hinted at this fact when they went to a home game at the University of Kansas. On his Instagram, Gary wrote, “They say marriage is about compromising, so I’m glad @gabby_woodland realises we only root for Kansas even though she went to Baylor.”

Both Gary and Gabby have refrained from sharing how they started dating. However, according to a report by People, the couple were first spotted together in November 2011 at the 56th World Cup, where Gary won alongside his partner, Matt Kuchar.  

As per KUSports.com, about three years later, in early 2014, Gary and Gabby got engaged. The pair then tied the knot in October 2016 in Turks and Caicos. Reportedly, they had a romantic destination wedding ceremony on the beach at the Amanyara luxury resort, with waves seemingly crashing in the background. Gary posted a photo of his wife, Gabby, from the day when she can be seen in a white dress standing under a floral arch and captioned it, “Definitely the biggest win of my life.”

Gabby and Gary embraced parenthood when they welcomed their son, Jaxson, and twin girls, Maddox and Lennox. Reportedly, just a few months after they got married, in March 2017, Gary announced that he and Gabby were expecting twins. Sadly, within a month of that, he revealed that they had lost one of the babies after some complications. Following this, doctors kept a close eye on Gabby’s condition for the rest of her pregnancy, and in that same summer, their son, Jacob, was born in June 2017. Gary took to his Instagram to share the happy news and wrote: 

“G and I are so excited to welcome Jaxson Lynn Woodland into the world. He came to us 10 weeks early kicking and screaming at 3lbs. G and Jax are both doing great. Thank you to all the doctors, nurses and NICU for helping take care of our little boy.” 

Gabby and Gary became parents for the second time in August 2019 when the couple announced that they had welcomed twin girls named Maddox and Lennox. Posting a family photo on his Instagram, Gary wrote, “Best part is Jax doesn’t realise our identical twin girls will be coming home soon.”

While Gary continues to dedicate himself to the sport of golf, it would not have been possible without the support of his wife, Gabby Woodland. Gary himself has acknowledged this fact numerous times. For instance, in 2017, during his Topeka Hall of Fame induction, he gave Gabby a sweet shout-out, saying that there are a couple of special people in his life he wants to thank, starting with his wife. He said: 

“I do want to thank a couple special people in my life that are here tonight and have really helped me get to where I’m at today, and that starts with my wife who is my rock. She has the responsibility now of dealing with me on a daily basis; she has to deal with my good rounds and when I’m happy and when I’m power-pouting after my bad rounds. She has to deal with that roller coaster. I can’t thank her enough; I love her to death.” 

Once again, during the 2019 US Open Championship, Gary expressed his gratitude to his wife. He thanked Gabby for helping raise their family when he had to travel to play. Speaking with The Topeka Capital-Journal, Gary said, “I wouldn’t be where I am today without her, to be honest with you.” Now that all three of their children are comparatively older, Gabby supports her husband right from the field, with one of her latest sightings being in April 2024 at The Masters.

Many might not be aware, but in April 2023, Gary began to experience some unusual symptoms like insomnia and a feeling of panic. After he underwent an MRI, it was finally revealed that he had a brain lesion. While he was initially put on seizure medication, just a few months later, Gary revealed that he would be undergoing surgery to address it. Well, this is when Gabby, after appearing in a season 3 episode of Netflix’s Full Swing, opened up about what the experience has been like. She said, “It literally came out of nowhere. Our life was completely changed.” In a previous interview with Essentially Sports, Gabby recounted the time Gary broke the news to her, stating: 

“I just remember him going back in the bedroom to write it, and him just coming out, and he was just bawling.”
