Meet Max Holloway’s Wife, Alessa Quizon, A Pro Surfer, Amid His UFC 326 Fight With Charles Oliveira

Max Holloway is a renowned American professional mixed martial artist. In the early days of his MMA career, he was often compared with former UFC and WEC champion, Anthony Pettis. This was owing to his ability to strike his opponents using a wide range of flying and spinning kicks, knees and elbows. In 2016, Max won the UFC Featherweight Championship match against Anthony Pettis. Following this, in October 2017, he signed a new multi-fight deal with the UFC.  

Max won a lightweight bout against Justin Gaethje on April 13, 2024, at UFC 300, earning him the UFC ‘BMF’ belt. For those unaware, Max Holloway is gearing up to face off against Charles Oliveira in a lightweight match on Saturday, March 7, 2026. According to reports, the duo had previously fought each other more than a decade ago, which makes it interesting to see if Max can defend his BMF title in this rematch. As fans eagerly wait for Max Holloway’s UFC fight tonight, curiosity about his personal life, especially his wife, Alessa Quizon, has also increased. Alessa Quizon is a native of Hawaii 

If reports are believed to be true, Max Holloway’s wife, Alessa Quizon, is a native of the island of Oahu in Hawaii. Apparently, she was raised on the west side of Makawao, which is best known for being a surf town. Alessa has often said that, since she spends most of her time travelling the world to compete, she has come to realise just how dear her hometown is to her.  

Calling Hawaii a “paradise” during a 2023 conversation with Outrigger Resorts, she said that every time she comes back home, she thinks to herself, “Why am I taking this place for granted?” Alessa further confessed that whenever she gets homesick, she deals with it by listening to a lot of Hawaiian reggae music.  

Alessa Quizon is a professional surfer 

During an interview with Into The Gloss, Alessa said that she “fell in love” after being thrown in the water at the age of 2. She officially began surfing at 4, with her father being her teacher. Claiming that there is no other feeling in the world like riding a wave, Alessa said that surfing has been in her family for nearly two or three generations. To mention, her older sister is also a surfer. It was watching her sister compete in surfing competitions growing up that made Alessa realise she wanted to become a professional surfer. While talking about her experience as a pro surfer, Alessa stated: 

“Ideally, I’m in the water almost every day. Surfing uses your entire body and your mind — it’s definitely physical and mental. When I was on the world tour — that’s like the elite, best of the best — I was ranked seventeenth in the world. The oldest person I was surfing against was maybe 32 at the time, and the youngest was probably 17.” 

Alessa Quizon and Max Holloway announced their engagement on the same day as the latter’s fight against Calvin Kattar was announced  

Max Holloway and Alessa Quizon announced that they were engaged on November 17, 2020. Taking to his Instagram, Max wrote, “She said yes.” The post also featured the couple’s adorable photos, in which they can be seen enjoying the beach, with Alessa’s engagement ring on full display. Replying to the post, Alessa wrote, “Truly blessed.” It is worth noting that on the day Alessa and Max announced their engagement, the UFC dropped the news that Max was going to fight Calvin Kattar for UFC Fight Night on the same day.  

Alessa Quizon and Max Holloway got married in a beachside ceremony  

Alessa Quizon and Max Holloway got married at the Lanikuhonua Cultural Institute in Ko Olina, Hawaii. According to reports, the pair had a beachside ceremony in the presence of their full families, including Max’s son, Rush. After their wedding, Max took to his Instagram and wrote, “I get to spend the rest of my life with my soulmate.” Alessa also shared several pictures from her big day on her account with the caption: 

“I married the love of my life. Sorry in advance, just wanted to let you guys know that I will be spamming your feed with all the beautiful memories that were made and the appreciation for those that made our wedding so special.” 

Alessa Quizon is a step-mother to Max Holloway’s son, Rush 

For those unaware, Max was previously married to Kaimana Pa’aluhi. During their marriage, the former couple welcomed a son named Rush together in 2012. If reports are to be believed, Max and Kaimana separated in 2014, two years later, and eventually divorced in 2017. Now that Max is married to Alessa, it seems like she and Rush have developed a close relationship. In an Instagram post in honour of Rush’s 10th birthday, Alessa described him as “adventurous, courageous and excitingly curious.” Also calling him “funny, clumsy, and extremely loving,” Alessa claimed that it has been a blessing to watch Rush grow.  

Alessa Quizon is the biggest supporter of Max Holloway’s career 

As we have already mentioned, Max Holloway’s biggest supporter is none other than his wife, Alessa Quizon. Alessa, along with her step-son, Rush, can often be seen sitting ringside during Max’s fights. Interestingly, even during the ESPN+ series UFC Journey, the very first scene of the episode featuring Max showcases him and his family having a jolly time together at the beach. Referring to the same, Max told UFC.com: 

“They open up the show with us, and they talked about my family — Rush and my wife, Alessa — and it’s good. It just seems like things are falling into place. We’re in a good place right now, especially in my personal life. It’s awesome.”
