Entertainer Michael Barrymore gave a health update to fans as he returned to his new South Devon property where he is recovering from an operation he underwent in London earlier this week
Former BBC and ITV presenter, Michael Barrymore is recovering back in his South Devon home following hernia surgery he underwent in London on Wednesday (March 18). The 78-year old relocated to Devon’s Kingsbridge area three weeks ago and has been quick to commend the heartwarming reception from locals.
He’s been busy discovering neighbouring beaches, quirky independent shops and cafes whilst settling into the area, though he’s now been advised to take things steady. Posting a health update on Saturday, he reassured his 4.3 million TikTok fans that he’s recovering nicely. “I’m taking it easy and took Lara [his dog] to Blackpool Sands – the one in Devon, not Blackpool because this one is way better,” he quipped in a video.
The duo made their way to a beachside kiosk where Barrymore treated himself to a sausage bap before heading back to his car to tuck in. “Lara had a sausage roll all to herself, which the lady gave her for free – how nice is that?” the entertainer mused.
Barrymore gushed about Devon being “absolutely gorgeous” with “blue skies all day long” as he made his way back to his pad, where yet another delivery awaited as renovations on his new home progress.
“I got an aluminium framed print to go near my front door and I love it,” he enthused. “When the sun hits it, it looks great. My house is slowly starting to take shape now.”
The star confessed that since he “can’t do a lot right now”, he simply slept all afternoon whilst continuing his post-operative recovery. “I’ve got loads of painkillers the hospital gave me,” he revealed. “I don’t really like to take them though as they make me really drowsy.”
Barrymore closed by admitting he “couldn’t be bothered to cook” and instead opted for a microwaved Thai green curry ready meal, rounded off with rhubarb pie and custard.
Days earlier, upon coming round from his operation, the former Strike It Lucky host joked: “Okay the surgery was a success, but what if I’m not funny anymore?”
Writing in response, meanwhile, one Devon local offered Barrymore support: “Hope you’re feeling better, if you need any help I’m a housekeeper and I can come give you a free clean and walk Lara if you need. Just a message away.”
Another follower enquired: “How longs the recovery Michael?” Tow which he: “A couple of weeks I think.”
A third observer cautioned: “You don’t need to try harder, you just do you and look after yourself an update on how you’re feeling is enough, no silly shenanigans please Mr Barrymore you need to take things steady after surgery.”
And fourth TikTok user commented: “So glad you are recovering from your operation. Looks like you’ve settled into your new home in Devon, it’s looking fab.”
