Comedian Michael McIntyre has revealed that he has started using Mounjaro after doctors warned him that he was medically obese
Michael McIntyre has revealed that he has started taking Mounjaro in order to shed the pounds following some encouragement from his wife Kitty. Doctors warned the comedian that at his previous weight of 15st 10lbs, he was in the category of obesity.
Initially reluctant, The Wheel presenter, 49, recently explained that he soon started to see results in just three weeks.
According to The Sun, Michael spoke about his weight loss journey to a London audience at one of his comedy shows.
He told reportedly told the crowd: “Have you noticed how tiny I am? I have lost weight. Don’t applaud it because there is a little bit of cheating that has gone on. The doctor told me I weighed 100kg. He told me I was “obese”. How rude. He said, ‘It’s a medical term’.”
Despite dealing with his weight fluctuating over the years, the witty comedian explained that his recent weight gain was due to his love of eating the leftovers from his wife and two sons, Lucas and Oscar.
Mounjaro, known in the medical field as tirzepatide, has become as popular for weight loss as Ozempic and Wegovy
According to reports the food suppressant drug “mimics the naturally occurring GLP-1 hormone, which helps lower blood sugar and can increase feelings of fullness.”
Although it was created to treat those suffering with diabetes it has proved to be a success when it comes to weight loss. And celebrities including Oprah Winfrey and Sharon Osbourne have used it in the past.
Michael has done his best over the years to keep his weight down and even spent a reported £4,000 a week at a weight loss clinic in Austria.
Michael has previously said that he attended the Mayr clinic with his friend Paul Tomkinson in 2017 but felt “depressed” during his stay as he only ate soup and crackers.
Speaking of his experience on Jessie Ware’s Table Manners podcast in 2020, he said: “You drink the Epsom salts first thing and then within 20 minutes, the whole of the clinic – which is full of wealthy fat people – are all rushing to the lavatory. I lost a stone – we were only there six days. I was so emotional, depressed and confused and Paul was skeletal.”
He then admitted to leaving the clinic early as Paul “nearly died” during their hike. Weirdly, Michael revealed that while at the clinic he suddenly developed a fear of apples and is now scared to eat them.
In an interview with The Sun he explained: “I went to this place called the Mayr Clinic and lost quite a bit of weight, which I kept off for a little while. It was a week of pain and they did all these tests on me, put little probes on the end of my tongue and told me I shouldn’t eat apples.”
He went on to say: “Apparently apples will make me very lethargic and confused in my brain. It’s the only thing I’ve taken from it, really.”
