Michelle Keegan is ‘obsessed’ with spring’s most divisive but comfy trainer style

It may be dividing the internet, but there’s no doubt this spring shoe style loved by Michelle Keegan is comfy

Shoe trends don’t often stray from the safe boxes of boots, trainers, flats and heels, but we’re seeing one style take off this spring that’s less than expected: a hybrid of a Mary Jane ballet flat and a sport trainer. Specifically, an Adidas Samba trainer.

The trend started early this year with the merging of ballet shoes with the lace-up design and logos of brands like Puma, Adidas and Diesel, but now we’re seeing Mary Jane flats being given a sporty update– and one that’s being praised by Michelle Keegan. Enter, Adidas Originals Samba Jane Women’s shoes, £80.

The star just took to Instagram to share her new shoes, writing: “I’ll say it…I’m into Velcro straps. Obsessed.”

The trainer features the trademark gum sole of a Samba but has the closed-toe design of a Mary Jane. And as Michelle points out, the part that makes it a Marmite design is the Velcro fastening. Since many of us haven’t worn shoes with adhesive bands since childhood, ditching laces for them feels quite childlike. However, there’s no denying how comfy they look.

Over on Asos, where you can also shop the popular white and black colourway, reviews are already piling in for spring’s hottest shoe style.

One writes: “Love love love. So comfy and stylish. Classic samba but with a twist. Look great with jeans, linens and cropped trousers.”

Another pens: “Perfect! Have a Velcro strap that can be adjusted for width and slightly small length but fit as I don’t wear socks with these trainers,” with a third adding: “They look really nice on too, I bought a pair in every colour!”

A fourth gives a different opinion, saying: “I wish they were wider or made wide feet ones as the shoe itself is so cute and I was super excited to wear it.”

“They are absolutely amazing, exactly what I was looking for. They are going to be perfect for my holidays. Comfy and stylish, and will go with anything. So happy with them,” says a fifth.

“They fit perfectly and are very comfortable while still being cute. I was concerned about the velcro in case it wouldn’t hold well because I’ve got wide feet, but the velcro is strong, and I didn’t have to adjust it even once during a whole day wearing them, 10/10 thanks, Adidas!” weighs in another.

If you want to get your hands on Michelle’s shoes, many of the colours are selling out fast, so we’d suggest nabbing your size while you can.

Alternatively, another style of sporty flat that’s still getting plenty of traction this season is Puma’s Speedcat Go Shoes, £75. In wearable shades ranging from brown to blue, they also look great paired with jeans or skirts.
