The betting market is skeptical that Mikaela Shiffrin will be able to recapture her magic in Milan.
One of the most decorated alpine skiers in history, Shiffrin left the 2022 Winter Olympics without a medal, and then suffered a severe injury during a fall in November 2024.
The toll that spill took on the 30-year-old had plenty wondering if she’d ever get back on a podium, but things turned around a few months later.
The four-time Olympian finally notched her record-extending 100th World Cup victory last February, and then tallied seven more, including one in the slalom right before the Opening Ceremony.
It felt like Shiffrin was on her way back to the top of the mountaintop, but a sluggish start to the 2026 Winter Olympics has stunted her momentum.
The Colorado native was handed a lead by Breezy Johnson in the combined ski Tuesday, but Shiffrin finished 15th overall, almost a full second behind the winner in an event that was seemingly in the bag after Johnson’s run.
Tuesday’s performance caused her odds to drift ahead of Sunday’s final in the Women’s Giant Slalom.
Shiffrin is currently listed at 10/1 to win the event at DraftKings Sportsbook, which makes her the sixth-favorite to capture her third Olympic gold medal.
Julia Scheib of Austria is the favorite at +150 odds. Defending champion Sara Hector of Sweden is the fourth-favorite at 6/1.
2026 Olympics Women’s Giant Slalom odds

- Camille Rast, Switzerland +300
- Federica Brignone, Italy +500
- Sara Hector, Sweden +600

Shiffrin is +225 to make it on the podium.
One of Shiffrin’s Olympic gold medals came in the Giant Slalom back in 2018.
She became the youngest slalom gold medalist in 2014 when she took home top honors as an 18-year-old.
