Mirra Andreeva reportedly expressed her frustration at the crowd after the match

Mirra Andreeva was playing against Katerina Siniakova at the BNP Paribas Open on March 9, 2026 (ET). Mirra bounced back from a tough start, overcoming a 0-3 deficit and double-break disadvantage to take the opening set 6-4. The second set, which stretched to 72 minutes, Andreeva was spotted not giving up, rebounding from a break at 4-4. Things were going fine in the match until the tiebreaker moment arrived, where Andreeva failed to hit a swing volley on top of the net.

The situation immediately led to a reaction from Mirra Andreeva, who tossed her racket to the ground and smashed it. After the match point, Mirra did the same thing once again. She was shaking hands with Katerina in the end, and a few moments later, Mirra was reportedly spotted shouting at the crowd and leaving the court. The New York Times stated that Mirra also allegedly asked her team to leave the court along with coach Conchita Martinez.

Mirra Andreeva received a code violation when she smashed her racket

Mirra Andreeva’s reaction in the court was not well received by a lot of people. As mentioned, Mirra smashed the racket twice, and she had received a code violation for racket abuse when she did it in the beginning. Moreover, the viewers were reportedly heard booing when Andreeva was leaving the court while gesturing at everyone. Mirra had also punched her thigh when she missed a break point. She even allegedly struck herself at one point, which was spotted by a commentator. As per The Athletic, Mirra expressed disappointment over everything that happened inside the court while speaking at a press conference and said:

“I’m not really proud of how I managed it. I’m not really proud of how I handled it in the end. Those are the things that I really need to work on soon. I don’t know. Not in the future but whenever I get the chance.”

During an interview with Tennis Channel, Katerina Siniakova addressed the moments by saying that Mirra Andreeva was facing a lot of pressure. Katerina even described Mirra as an “amazing player,” adding that everyone needs to play “long rallies” and they should do it by themselves. Notably, when the match was on air, commentators Naomi Broady and Naomi Cavaday said that Katerina was not satisfied with how Mirra was serving. However, Andreeva refused to slow down despite being requested by the chair umpire.

Back in January 2026, Mirra Andreeva won the women’s singles title at the Adelaide International. However, Mirra’s speech after her victory led to heavy criticism against her on social media. Online users were spotted calling Mirra arrogant, with a few others requesting that she be thankful to everyone and stop promoting bad behaviour. Mirra said in her speech that she wants to thank herself for being brave in the matches she played over the years and pushing herself every day on practices. Andreeva continued by saying:

“I want to thank myself for changing my mentality for fighting til the very last point. For doing what I got to do. Doing what my team tells me to do, sometimes with complaining, but it’s okay. I guess thanks to me and thanks everyone again.”
