Morgan Freeman was a special guest on The Jennifer Hudson Show but the movie great is now 88, and fans rushed to show their love for him after some raised concerns
Beloved actor Morgan Freeman left fans a little worried with some fearing he appeared ‘confused’ on The Jennifer Hudson Show.
The 88-year-old actor, who starred in the The Shawshank Redemption and Seven, was filmed walking through the show’s spirit tunnel and the clip which was shared to social media. The movie legend was greeted with warm applause as he was slowly walking down as they sung his name.
Staff were seen helping the acclaimed veteran as he carried on, but by the end he was forced to lean against the wall for support. Viewers were quick to comment, saying the star looked ‘overstimulated’ by it all. They rushed to remark on what they had seen with some speaking about their fears for much-loved Hollywood icon.
Taking to X, formerly known as Twitter, one posted: “He actually old now I’m sad. He looks so confused like he didn’t know what he was supposed to do.” Another said: “He looks like he forgot where he was a few times walking down that line” as a third put: “Morgan Freeman is looking old for real now guys… check on your grandparents.”
But other were quick to offer a reminder. One said: “He’s 88! I’m just happy he’s walking without assistance!” Morgan previously revealed he suffers from fibromyalgia. The condition, which has no cure, came after he sustained nerve damage following a serious car crash.
He was lucky to survive after his vehicle rolled over multiple times after coming off a Mississippi highway and landed in a ditch in 2008. The actor, who had been driving during the terrifying ordeal, was conscious and talking at the scene before being airlifted to hospital with his passenger.
The American broke his left shoulder, arm and elbow in the accidents and doctors operated for four hours to repair nerve damage. While he recovered from his injuries, he was left with a relatively useless left hand and constant pain due to the chronic muscular condition fibromyalgia.
“I suffered nerve damage and it hasn’t gotten better. I can’t move it,” he explained at the time. “If you don’t move your hand, it will swell up. Do you know you move your hand about a million times a day?” He must now wear the compression glove to keep the blood flowing and was left in “excruciating” agony.
In what is often considered the greatest movie of all time, he played Ellis Boyd “Red” Redding – an inmate at Shawshank prison. Alongside playing one of the main roles, he became remembered for his soulful narration of the film – which happened to be the first one he ever narrated.
The Shawshank Redemption holds the highest IMDb rating and has sat at the top of IMDb’s Top 250 films for over 25 years. Surprisingly enough, however, the film was considered a box office flop upon its release in 1994.
The film initially earned $16million (£12.7m) in its first theatrical run, a number completely overshadowed by its $25m (£19.8m) budget. Speaking to Vanity Fair in 2014, Freeman said: “Nobody could say Shawshank Redemption. Your friends say, ‘Ah, man, I saw this movie, The… what was it? Shank, Sham, Shim? Something like that. Anyways, terrific.’ Well, that doesn’t sell you.”
In 2020, the Now You See Me star tweeted: “It has been 26 years since #ShawshankRedemption came out in theatres and I’m still thankful to everyone who made our box office flop one of the most beloved movies of all time.”
In 1959, the Oscar winner was in a relationship with Loletha Adkins and she gave birth to Freeman’s first child, Alfonso, but it was reported the pair split sometime after his birth.
The Golden Globe-winning star became a father for the second time in 1960, welcoming another son named Saifoulaye. Details about Saifoulaye’s mother have never been revealed and he has chosen a life out of the spotlight.
Freeman’s first big break came in 1967 when he joined the cast in the first all-African American stage production of Hello, Dolly!, and the same year, he married Jeanette Adair Bradshaw who he remained with until 1979.
