Hyderabad: The government on Sunday directed all department heads to shift their offices from private houses to government premises by December 31.
The directive follows an internal report confirming that government buildings in Hyderabad, district headquarters and other locations have sufficient space to accommodate offices, eliminating the need to operate from rented private premises.
According to the circular, officials were instructed to relocate offices to identified government buildings and warned that no funds would be released for rentals from January 2026. Any officer found violating the order by continuing to pay rent for private premises will face action.
Sources said the decision was taken after crores of rupees were found to be spent annually on rentals for government offices housed in private buildings. To prevent such wastage, an internal audit was conducted to identify available space in government buildings, leading to the directive to shift offices.
