In a recent interview, Mrunal Thakur has talked about her long-standing struggle with body-shaming and online trolling regarding her weight. She revealed that while the journey toward self-acceptance was difficult, an important piece of advice from Akshay Kumar played a big role in boosting her confidence.
Mrunal admitted that the pressure to meet narrow beauty standards frequently took a toll on her mental health in the past. Recalling the emotional weight of the criticism, she told News 18, “I’ve had my days. There were days I would go to bed crying and cry myself to sleep. I would wake up with puffy eyes and tell myself that it’s not worth it.”
Mrunal explained that finding the courage to overcome these feelings was a major challenge, especially when support wasn’t always available. A turning point in her perspective occurred during an encounter with a young fan. While the fan expressed admiration for Mrunal’s physique, she realized she was busy wishing for someone else’s body. This moment served as a wake-up call, helping her understand the importance of internal validation over external praise.
Adding to her journey of self-belief was a meaningful conversation with Akshay Kumar. Mrunal recalled his encouraging words, “I had met Akshay sir, and what he told me was very beautiful. He said to me, ‘I’m so happy that you’ve embraced this version of yourself. It’s great that you don’t listen to the voices around you that tend to trigger you or say a thousand things, and you just do what you feel. But if a role requires you to cut down, do that.’”
According to Mrunal, these words left a lasting impression, allowing her to prioritize her own well-being over societal pressures. On the work front, Mrunal was recently seen in Do Deewane Seher Mein, which released on February 20. The film, directed by Ravi Udyawar and produced by Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s banner alongside Zee Studios, features her opposite Siddhant Chaturvedi. The movie, which focuses on emotional vulnerability and self-discovery, earned approximately ₹4–5 crore during its opening weekend in India.
