The individual simultaneously demanded one Bitcoin to deliver information about the abductors of Savannah Guthrie’s mother “on a silver platter.” Notably, the notes arrived on the same day Savannah returned to host the Today Show. The public is curious about whether the two events are linked.

According to The New York Post, these latest ransom notes were sent by the same mystery person who had demanded one bitcoin in exchange for information on Nancy Guthrie’s disappearance nearly two months ago. The anonymous source also expressed frustration, stating that they have been reaching out to the media outlet since February 11, 2026, but the notes have been “disregarded as a scam.” They expressed disbelief that millions have already been spent on the search for Nancy; however, they were unwilling to spend one bitcoin on the source, who repeatedly offered to help themself.

The source termed the authorities’ attempt to solve Nancy Guthrie’s kidnapping case without external help as “arrogance at its finest.” The Pima County Sheriff’s Department and the FBI are leading the search. Despite evidence of foul play in Savannah’s mother’s disappearance, including bloodstains found at her home, officials maintained there is no conclusive evidence of her death. However, the anonymous source’s claims were contradictory. Their letter’s contents could be read as:

“She [Nancy Guthrie] is dead… It’s unbelievable that millions have been wasted and yet here I am willing to deliver them on a silver platter since February 11 for a bitcoin but I am disregarded as a scam…they are free and the case is frozen but the ego’s remain hot when it comes to me. Arrogance at its finest.”

A former FBI official also weighed in on the possibility of Nancy Guthrie’s death

An ex-FBI official has raised significant doubt regarding whether Nancy Guthrie is still alive, as a long time has passed since her disappearance from her Tucson home. Former FBI Assistant Director, Chris Swecker expressed serious doubt that a genuine kidnapping is occurring during his February 2026 conversation with Fox News. He pointed to the lack of “proof of life” and the suspicious jump in ransom demands from USD 1 million to USD 6 million. Sharing his concerns, he stated:

“I’m very sceptical of this. Is this really a kidnapping? Does somebody really have her, and is she really alive?”

According to Chris Swecker, Nancy Guthrie’s family must be open to possibilities other than abduction. The reason was that no evidence had been “credibly authenticated at this point.” He noted that if it was a legitimate kidnapping, providing proof of life would be simple, if the kidnappers had not done so even after repeated requests of Nancy’s children via social media. Chris suggested the case might be “something other than a kidnapping,” weighing on the possibility that Savannah Guthrie’s mother may have passed away shortly after the kidnapper(s) initial break-in and attempt to take her away forcefully. He mentioned:

“If this was a kidnapping, it would be a very simple matter to authenticate and provide proof of life…You have to allow for the possibility that this was something more or something other than a kidnapping.”
