‘Nancy Guthrie’s Kidnappers Dumped her Body Because She Was No Longer Of Value,’ As Per Expert

Savannaht Guthrie’s mother, Nancy Guthrie, disappeared from her home late in the night. She had dinner with her elder daughter, Annie Guthrie and her husband, and they dropped her to her home. But no one had any idea that it was Nancy’s last dinner with her family, as she was abducted from her home late in the night. As the investigation to find Nancy enters the third month, experts have come up with a theory of the kidnappers’ state of mind.

As per investigators and experts, Savannah Guthrie’s 84-year-old mother, Nancy Guthrie, might have suffered a fatal medical emergency during the kidnapping in the middle of the night. Her captors’ plans might have gone for a toss as they were forced to dump her body, as it was of no value to them once dead, as per the cold-case expert, Brian Martin. 

Brian Martin shared that kidnappers might have underestimated Nancy’s health and age. They might have been forced to scrap their ransom plan and were trying to get rid of her body when things went sideways. She was quoted as saying:

“What really bothers me is if they underestimated Miss Guthrie’s health and thought, ‘Well, we’ll take her, this will be easy. We’ll hold on to her at an unknown location for a day or two. We’ll get some money out of this and we’ll leave her in a Walmart parking lot.’ And what they had to do is … it sounds horrible…. They had to dispose of Miss Guthrie because she was no longer of value to them in that monetary gain that they’re hoping to get.”

Savannah Guthrie gave her first interview after her mother’s shocking kidnapping. For the first few days, they thought that she might have gone somewhere; later, it was revealed that she was taken against her will, which meant she was kidnapped. In an interview with co-anchor, Hoda Kotb, Savannah talked about her mother’s kidnapping and shared that someone needs to speak up, as the family is in agony, and it is unbearable. 

Savannah further revealed that every time she thinks of what her mother might have gone through, it gives her goosebumps. In the middle of the interview, she was seen sobbing as she shared that she wakes up every night and imagines her mother’s terror, which is unthinkable. She said:

“Someone needs to do the right thing. We are in agony. We are in agony. It is unbearable. And to think of what she went through, I wake up every night, in the middle of the night, every night, and in the darkness, I imagine her terror and it is unthinkable. She needs to come home, now.”

The statement came as the investigation for Nancy entered its seventh week, with no luck in getting her back. The 84-year-old author was last seen on January 31, 2026, after her elder daughter dropped her home in Tucson. However, suspicion was raised when she missed a church service the next day, after which a search was launched to find her.

Investigators were sure that Nancy was kidnapped in the night, as the surveillance footage had a masked man at her front door. Pima County Sheriff Chris Nanos shared that the investigators know the motive behind the kidnapping, and they believe it was a targeted one. They had that since day one; they had strong beliefs about what might have gone wrong, and those beliefs have not diminished so far.
