TEHRAN – Officials in Natanz have emphasized the importance of maintaining historical integrity of the ancient city as preparations are underway to accommodate increased tourism during the upcoming Nowruz holiday, which officially starts on March 21.

The Natanz office for cultural heritage, tourism and handicrafts is actively overseeing temporary improvements to the city’s centuries-old bazaar to welcome visitors for the spring holiday, Natanz tourism chief said.

Hajar Sharifi on Wednesday inspected the bazaar with officials from the office and the municipality, citing the need for immediate temporary fixes to uneven pathways in the bazaar, citing the soil-based ground and sloping surfaces as contributing factors.

“The traditional bazaar of Natanz, for instance, is not just a passageway for passing tourists or shoppers; it narrates the history and civilization of this region,” the official said. “We are coordinating with cultural heritage experts to ensure that these temporary fixes do not damage the historical authenticity of the bazaar.”

Natanz, located in Isfahan province, is recognized for its historical sites, including the Jameh Mosque, historical tombs, and a unique orchard architecture. The bazaar is considered a key element of the city’s identity and is being prepared to meet the needs of visitors.

As mentioned by Sharifi, local authorities plan to undertake comprehensive restoration and preservation efforts in the future, guided by scientific principles of historical building rehabilitation.  The current improvements align with the city’s broader development goals and aim to create a positive and memorable experience for tourists, she underlined.
