The UK supermarket chain will bring the total to more than 500

Aldi has made a new announcement that it said would affect 62 of its stores this year.

It is set to fit solar panels at an additional 62 stores throughout the UK in 2026, pressing ahead with the expansion of its solar programme. The supermarket stated it “builds on existing progress”, with solar panels already fitted at more than 470 stores across its UK estate.

In this latest phase, Aldi confirmed it is ploughing £8.4 million into installing solar panels at 100 stores throughout 2025 and 2026. Each installation can supply up to 30% of a store’s annual energy needs, enabling Aldi to generate more of its electricity on-site and bolster energy resilience across its estate.

The UK’s fourth largest supermarket is targeting stores in Stratford-upon-Avon, Maghull, Northampton and Wrexham for solar panel installation in the coming months.

Jonathan Neale, managing director of national real estate at Aldi UK, said: “We’ve made significant progress over the past year, and we are advancing the next phase of our solar rollout across even more stores in 2026.

“The programme has expanded to cover even more sites than originally planned and through ongoing investment in our estate we’re making our operations more resilient while ensuring we continue to deliver great value for customers in a more sustainable way.”
