With the Duke and Duchess of Sussex planning a major overseas trip in the coming weeks, one PR expert believes the pseudo-royal visit could be a way for Prince Harry to win back his brother

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle are just weeks away from embarking on a major overseas trip that will take them to Australia for the first time in over seven years. Earlier this week, a spokesperson for the Duke and Duchess of Sussex said they will travel to Sydney and Melbourne in mid-April for a series of “private, business and philanthropic engagements”. Their visit Down Under comes just weeks after Harry and Meghan completed another overseas trip with their whirlwind two-day visit to Jordan.

With the international visit just weeks away, a PR expert believes the trip could be new hope for Harry to build bridges with his estranged brother Prince William, and could even be a path back into the royal fold.

While the official itinerary for Harry and Meghan’s Australian trip has not been confirmed, the pair will be undertaking major individual events. Harry will be speaking on a panel in Melbourne about mental health, while Meghan will be the guest of honour for a ‘girl’s weekend’ retreat in Sydney.

The three-day event will welcome 300 guests to a luxury beachside hotel as Meghan will deliver a talk and be the VIP guest for a gala dinner, with those wanting to attend needing to fork out £1,439 for a ticket.

Despite only being announced within the last week, many royal commentators and fans alike have shared their thoughts on the Sussexes visit, with the press surrounding the trip no doubt reaching the palace and the Royal Family.

PR expert Dermot McNamara told the Mirror that it is highly likely Prince William has been informed of his younger brother’s trip, and would be eager to keep an eye on what happens Down Under when the Sussexes arrive on Australian shores.

Dermot said: “William will no doubt have seen the coverage about Harry and Meghan’s visit to Australia and I’m sure he’s interested to see how they get on over there – and also whether anything is said about him and his brother, or the other members of the royal family and their current situation.”

The PR expert added that while William and his younger brother Harry have been estranged for several years, it is definitely possible that the heir to the throne is keeping an eye on Harry as he starts thinking about his plans for the monarchy when he ascends the throne.

Dermot believes that if all goes well in Australia, as it did in Jordan, and the Sussexes prove themselves to be worthy ambassadors for their philanthropic work, it could open the door to Harry having some kind of royal role in the future.

He said: “As next in line to the throne William will no doubt be thinking about his future plans, and maybe the trip will give him a bit of insight into who can be part of that, and whether they may be a way to reconcile, even for the sake of the family business, so to speak. Harry is still his brother, so he’s always going to be interested in his life anyway, even just on a very human level, and one would hope he wants Harry to do well.”

William and Harry have only seen each other a handful of times since Harry and his wife Meghan quit their royal duties in early 2020 and relocated to America. The brothers have had an incredibly strained relationship, which has shown no signs of relenting as Harry has continued with his public jabs against the Firm.
