Newcastle will attempt to move into the quarter-finals of the EFL Cup tonight, and continue their defence of the trophy, when they host Spurs.

The Tyneside club claimed their first domestic silverware in 70 years last season when they beat Liverpool in the final at Wembley. They can expect a stiff test from Spurs tonight, though.

Thomas Frank’s men have won four and drawn one of their five league games away from home this season and are displaying a more structured style of play than they did under the Dane’s predecessor Ange Postecoglou.

Newcastle boss Eddie Howe said: “This will be a really tough game against a team that is in form away from home. It is going to be a real challenge for us. Thomas Frank’s teams are very aggressive off the ball – they are very well organised. It is a good game for us, a tough game, but one we look forward to.”
