Adrianne Curry won the first ever series of America’s Next Top Model back in 2003
The first winner of America’s Next Top Model is almost unrecognisable more than two decades after her television debut.
Adrianne Curry triumphed in Cycle One of the modelling competition in 2003, claiming the coveted title. Though ANTM was still finding its feet at the time, it later evolved into a cultural sensation.
Masterminded by Tyra Banks, the programme brought together aspiring models from diverse backgrounds, all competing for the prestigious ‘Next Top Model’ crown.
The victor secured a modelling contract with a leading agency, a fashion magazine feature, and lucrative brand partnerships.
At just 20 years old, Adrianne competed alongside New Yorker Ebony Haith, who achieved internet fame through memes that continue to circulate amongst fans, reports OK!.
Now 43, the former reality television personality may be difficult for ANTM devotees to recognise, having traded her glamorous lifestyle for rural life with husband Matthew Rhode.
The television personality has aged gracefully and actively champions women embracing the natural signs of ageing.
She recently posted on Instagram celebrating grey hair and urged her followers to “stop perpetuating impossible beauty standards”.
Ironically, ANTM has faced recent criticism for promoting unrealistic beauty ideals. The programme originally launched as Tyra’s mission to diversify the fashion world by providing everyday women with opportunities to pursue their ambitions.
However, a younger generation of fans has questioned the show’s occasionally harsh handling of participants and out-of-touch photoshoots, including one challenge that involved race-swapping.
Netflix is preparing to delve into what really went on backstage at the now-controversial programme with a fresh documentary, Reality Check: Inside America’s Next Top Model.
The three-episode series includes exclusive interviews with Banks, as well as beloved figures Miss J. Alexander, Jay Manuel and Nigel Barker.
Former participants also appear, though Adrianne claims she turned down the opportunity to be involved.
When the documentary’s teaser was released, the model took to X to clarify her position on reassessing the programme through contemporary values.

Adrianne posted: “I am deeply grateful I won the first season of Top Model. I think people psychoanalyzing it over 20 years later with a woke lens is absurd.
“I don’t trust people to not manipulate things I say for TV, so I decline everything. Also, the public is cult-like and cruel, so the last thing I want is a bunch of eyeballs on me.
“I hope the other girls do not have their words twisted in their Netflix show.”
Reality Check: Inside America’s Next Top Model lands on Netflix this Monday, February 16
