The most decorated player in NFL history is hoping his former side can win a seventh Lombardi Trophy
Tom Brady appeared to signal support for the New England Patriots ahead of Super Bowl LX after earlier insisting he was neutral.
The former Patriots quarterback had drawn criticism this week when he said he did not have a “dog in the fight” for Sunday’s game between New England and the Seattle Seahawks.
However, in an Instagram story posted Friday night, Brady suggested otherwise.
“You know I got your back RKK,” he wrote, referencing Patriots owner Robert Kraft. “Get that seventh ring so we can match.”
Brady won six Super Bowl titles during his time in New England and later secured a seventh with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, which had led many to assume he would openly support his former team.
Earlier in the week, though, speaking on the “Let’s Go!” SiriusXM podcast with Jim Gray, he said: “I don’t have a dog in the fight in this one. May the best team win.”
The remark prompted a backlash from fans and former teammates. Vince Wilfork called the stance “bullcrap”, while Rob Gronkowski questioned whether Brady had ulterior motives.
Former cornerback Asante Samuel also suggested Brady was jealous of current Patriots quarterback Drake Maye.
After Brady’s social media post, Samuel again reacted publicly, questioning whether the message of support had come too late.
