Nick Reiner’s current state has been questioned with sources claiming he hasn’t fully processed what has happened after being charged with murdering his parents

Nick Reiner is reportedly in a “fog” after the deaths of his parents, Rob and Michele Reiner. The couple were found dead in their Los Angeles home on Sunday with their throats slit.

Their son Nick, 32, was later arrested and has since been charged with two counts of first degree murder. It’s not yet known whether he will face the death penalty if convicted.

As he remains in jail ahead of January’s arraignment, the screenwriter is reportedly “calm,” “cognisant,” and “dazed”. It’s claimed he hasn’t been able to fully process what has happened yet and is “in a fog”.

A source told TMZ Nick “isn’t even close to processing what happened”. It comes after reports suggest Nick had been diagnosed with schizophrenia.

The publication says he had been acting “erratic” and “dangerous” weeks before the deaths of his parents. Two insiders with first-hand knowledge about Nick stated that he was receiving treatment from a psychiatrist for mental health issues. In the month preceding the killings, we’re told Nick’s conduct had become “alarming.”

He’d recently been treated at a Los Angeles rehab centre that focuses on mental health conditions and drug dependency. The facility reportedly costs $70,000 monthly, and is frequented by wealthy, influential parents seeking help for their struggling children.

Nick is accused of murdering his parents. It’s not yet known exactly when they died, but the three had been at Conan O’Brien’s Christmas party on Saturday evening. It’s claimed they were involved in a heated argument at the party.

A call was made to emergency services on Sunday at 3.30pm. Rob and Michele’s daughter, Romy, is said to have found her dad’s dead body. She was later told by paramedics that her mum had also died, according to reports.

On the day of their deaths, police spoke briefly at Rob and Michele’s $13.5 million mansion in Brentwood. Dominic Choi explained that they were both found in the master bedroom of the lavish property. He said: “Officers conducted a thorough search of the residence to determine whether there was any additional victims or suspects, no one else was located.”

Speaking on Tuesday, Los Angeles County District Attorney Nathan Hochman revealed the charges against Nick. “I’m here to announce that our office will be filing charges against Nick Reiner accused of killing his parents,” he said at a press conference.

“These charges will be two counts of first-degree murder with a special circumstance of multiple murders. He also faces a special allegation that he personally used a dangerous and deadly weapon, that being a knife.

“These charges carry a maximum sentence of life in prison. No decision at this point has been made with the respect to the death penalty.

“Nick Reiner is being held without bail. I want to announce these are just charges. Charges are not evidence. Evidence is something that will be presenting in a court of law.”
